We did have situations when we we weren't allowed to sleep for 36-48 hours str8. This was 2007. To this day, I can't sleep for more than 5 consecutive hours.

We seized 50 bells of coke once. Port calls in Cali, Canada & Mexico 6 times a year was nice.

Are you getting a disability check for that.....I got the same problem from when I was in the Navy and currently have a disability attorney working on my case where I am hoping to get 40% - 60% disability.....this has been going on for years so the back pay if / when I get approved is going to be that deal

Nah

Go get that shit bruh...................they owe you that.

I hope my fellow vets don't take this thread as a diss towards them. It is certainly not. I am proud of my enlistment in the military. When people call me a sellout or an invader here in America. I actually don't get mad because as an American, you have the god given right to express yourself. I have been to country wher that is not possible.

A small percentage of the criticism towards vets come from the notion that African Americans still do not consider themselves citizens of this country. "No black man should be in the white mans army." is a phrase that only affirms this. Regardless of your thoughts and ideals, You are American. Everyday you lay your head on your pillow in the borders of this country with your internet and indoor plumbing, You affirm your citizenship. If you are not out taking action to change the things you don't like. You are only cosigning the actions of the people you despise.

Yeah but the system is different. They paying out. My pops fought for years until after the vet scandal. They called his ass and was all apologetic. This mfer get 100% PTSD over discrimination and hostile work enviroment. My brother joined with mental problems and they given his ass 60%.

I was in the AF. Had some of the best times of my life there, and it gave me a lot of invaluable tools that I didn't even realize I had until I use them. I saw some shit, did some shit, had top secret security clearance, learned computer networking, different martial arts, how to shoot properly, and got to get out and see a little bit of the world.

Got out and I'm still good. Ain't no hero shit here though. I just did my time and enjoyed it. *shrug* Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not a hero. I'm a young man who didn't apply himself in highschool and set goals for himself out the gate like his siblings. I understand my mistakes and now see to making something out of myself when i get out. They get me for two more years but after that I can use the opportunity to get myself a higher education on the low.

they got you got 8 years nigga, read the fine print

But for me I did my time, and i parlayed it into other opportunities. To tell you the truth i wouldn't be where I am if I didn't go to the Army. It's fuck Uncle Sam all day though,

9/11 GI Bill - Got my BA with No student loans and was getting cut them 2100$ checks for rent every month

Preferred Job Preference - Non Compete for a lot of government jobs

The Service is what you make of it

I did 4 years in the army, 3 of which in the Canary Islands, and then I was gone. One time I threatened to jump off a 2 story building, I'm a tendency. Fucking assholes are the reason I go 3 weeks a year without sleep like clockwork.

I give props for serving, but fuck a lot of them after that. A lot of them act special like they've been in combat and ain't did shit. I thought about joining the military right out of high school until I saw Dead Presidents, niggas been serving forever just to come home to bullshit lives. I can still hear Martin Sheen shitting on Larenz Tate at the end for not serving in a "real" war before giving him Life in prison. My people told me they wouldn't let me go if the government reinstalled the draft, their ass said if I got drafted, they'd get me tore up off whiskey and push me off the side of the crib so I'd break a leg or something and become ineligible lol.

I'm no hero and I'm a vet. Most of the military never seen live combat. Anyway, the biggest heroes in the black community are those working in the black community. Those are our true vets.

those that made it out climbed the ladder and navigates the sharks to take their food and bring it back to the black community are the true vets returning from war.

Niggas but to much thought in it. Currently don't pay at all for my school and my unit is pretty cool. Most people do it for the money and benefits anyway nothing wrong with being a mercenary

Like a mercenary? I would think it is the money.

You are right, money will make you do crazy things , I still don't agree with that , why not do it for your own?

So only white men should be military trained? No wonder these "veteran" cac cops can slaughter us the way they do.

Do what exactly? Risk our lives in what way? Active service members make up less than one percent with African Americans only tallying in the 10's of thousands. It'll take more than that to elicit real change in the black community.

I am confused. I thought you meant contract mercenaries that fight in these proxy wars in Africa and middle east. When you say somebody else country, whose country are you speaking of?

Biggest difference is most African Americans are against guns but has never handled one. If more African Americans handle a weapon to use it outside of killing another human. You will see real change and understanding of that weapon.

Meaning we need more African American hunters or sport shooters.

I didn't serve, but I came close to it......

Once the contractor I applied for called back, the military option was off the table for me. Thank the Most High for that too. Thing is, I'd be lying if I told you the military didn't have benefits that you can use and you shouldn't even consider joining. I actually had sistas in telling me "don't let your kids join" because of the stuff that happens in the military. However, I think you can do like 4-5 years and get out. Now when you get out your Clearance still may be active for a year or two and from there the world is yours. I may be incorrect far as the military, but for us that's how it works for ours. Travel to foreign lands as a civilian, look for more opportunities to get a higher clearance, better jobs, more training in your field, more experience etc.. So yeah it does have its benefits. So even though I never served, I do know what a lot of them military folks put up with. #Salute....

I don't fault anyone joining the military as way to get certain skills for a particular trade, to pay for college and/or to get out the hood and see other parts of the country and the world. But if you don't acquire any kind of skills to parlay it to something constructive then you wasted a good opportunity.

Don't know where you got the idea only cac men should be military trained, and did you know the us is not the only place in the world to receive military training?

Money will make people not use their brain and figure ways out to change their circumstances, risk your life in every way possible

Ive got a site that says 17% of active members are African , I agree it will take more for a change in the community, but being down by 21 in the fourth quarter, we need everything we can get
