That was classic. If anybody hasn't heard this, go to youtube and type in Kay Slay vs DJ Clue beef. It started when DJ Clue had a video show on MTV2. So DJ Clue was more commercial and made a successful transition from a street mixtape DJ to an industry DJ.

Meanwhile Kay Slay was killin em in the streets. I mean Kay Slay would release a new mixtape every week with brand new Jay Z songs, Dipset freestyles, D-Block, 50 Cent and G Unit freestyles. I mean Kay Slay was literally releasing a new mixtape every week with 20 songs of pure heat. He had a late night radio show on Hot 97 called The Drama Hour but that was also the name of his mixtape series; The Drama Hour. I think is was a 9 volume series. It was around the time of The Black Album and Beg For Mercy. I remember Public Service Announcement was on one of the tapes. There were also a lot of Saigon and Papoose freestyles.

So one day Kay Slay was talking shit about DJ Clue on the radio and DJ Clue called up the station. You'd have to hear the audio. I'm not going to ruin the story by trying to explain it.

Nosign. Kay Slay makes you want to punch somebody in the face when he yells over a song.

For the nigga who wanted to know about clue and slay beef.. heres a quick some up

clue had the streets on lock at one point, in his career he was the hottest dj

he had all the exclusives before everybody else he was cosigned by the hottest

label at the time which was rocafella......clue was that nigga

As clue got more popular he became more commercial which means

he started falling off of The mixtape game, however he started

hostin mtv shows with lala and doing radio shows......at this point kay slay

slowly but surely started to takeover the mixtape game and have the streets on

lock..........

clue would occasionally drop mixtapes every now and than like once every 2 or 3 months

but they were weak

due to the fact that kay slay was dropping mixtapes every weak.....

And basically songs that clue had on his mixtapes kay slay already had 3 or 4 previous

mixtapes back......

only thing that kept clue mixtapes afloat at the time was to hear a new fab freestyle

Or a triangle offence freestyle with fab stack cain buddens ateam ransom hitchcock......

anyway on youtube they have the audio phone conversation of kay slay and clue

going hard at each other on the n phone.........

what so funny about that conversation was how kay slay shitted on dj envy......

Same nigga from power 105......

envy was clue son n nigga was coming up under him, and clue tried to play

kay slay on some im bigger than mixtapes shit now I leave that for envy to run

that shit, and slay was on some envy, who the fuck is envy my baby brother would

wash envy........lol

envy was wack by the way, byfar the weakest mixtape dj at the time

At the end of the day kay slay felt he wasnt getting the proper acknowledgement

and felt clue was doing shady shit in the cut to stop slay from eating.......like homey said go

listen to the phone conversation on youtube........

Props to both @5grand and @knightryder for giving me insight on the beef. I never knew.

I think I have an old DJ envy mixtape somewhere at home. I Do remember "ain't no sunshine" with DMX starting with envy yelling on the track tho.

He fell the fuck off cause he was yelling all over tracks not giving the damn song a chance to play.

Nigga would even scream on slow jams!!!

Christion Just Leave Your Love:

Nigga never shoyld have been on in the first fucking place.

LOL yo he really screamed on every R&B cut on that tape! Couldn't even play that shit when a girl came over, would straight fuck the whole mood up. Used to have this slow jam mix I would play when this particular broad came over, I learned to stop setting it on random. Be balls deep talking dirty and in the background "NEW SHIT. ANNNNN AHHHHH. HA - HA . WILLIAM M HOLLA" smh

Kay Slay was "slaying" ear drums with his loud ass. dude looked like somebody grandpa with young nigga clothes. wtf was wrong with this 50 year old DJ arguing with 20 year olds.

Kay slay was unnecessarily hype lmaoooo

Clue got a bit shook tho

Nah I doubt Clue was shook. Real niggas ain't phased by the theatrics, so all that shit Kay Slay was doing was just comic relief to me. Plus if you really analyze the situation, Clue seemed like the winner. Think about it, Kay was basically like "C'mon man let me eat! You making it hard for me to eat out here & that's not fair because nobody did you like that when you were getting on!!"

Whether his sentiments are true or not, fact of the matter was Clue had already done everything Kay was trying to do, which is why Clue was so calm lol he like yo relax nigga you buggin'

I fuxed wit em both tho. I remember being on the school bus in grammar school listening to that hail mary remix kay slay dropped with Busta, em, 50. Shit was so dope to me at the time lol when I heard Busta dissing niggas I was on the back of the bus like

I have an mp3 of DJ Clue screaming over Quiet Storm by Mobb's Deep when it first came out. It's so hype that it actually sounds better than the original.

honestly DJ Drama took over as the most popular DJ...

DJ Clue had the late 90s with Roc-A-Fella, Ruff Ryders, Desert Storm, Murder Inc etc.

Kay Slay was the 00s (03-07) with all the G-Unit, D-Block, Saigon, Papoose, DipSet, etc.

DJ Drama took over when Trap Music took over with Jeezy & TI.

Khaled was just good at putting together good collaborations for hit songs. He kinda in his own lane...
