The difference between Nas, Snoop Dogg, and Busta Rhymes is they all been in the game for 20 years but Nas cant seem to reinvent himself and stay relevant.

Yes im a fan of lyrics but I feel like u need more than that to be considered one of the greatest.

You telling me Nas been in the game for 20 years and dont have a team of his own? He should be a boss by now. This nigga still shoppin for labels and lettin labels tell him what can be his album title and what should be his single. He a vet and going thru the same thing Lupe going thru with his record company execs.. Smh

If Rick Ross can come in with all his rapping flaws, past correctional officer job and all, and still build a team "TWICE" (yeah Triple C's flopped but that aint stop him) and be on top of the rap industry neck and neck with Young Money then Nas lost.

If a retarded rapper name Gucci Mane can take the streets by storm, bring up a protege name Wacka Flocka thats even more retarded, rape the music industry, doing 20 shows a month at 30K a show then Nas lost.

If Snoop can be on TV and use his name and celebrity to stay relevant while Busta Rhymes is still to this day getting crazy features and staying relevant and Nas been in the game just as long as them then Nas lost.

The point im trying to make is Nas has no charisma and a terrible business mind. By now he should be where Jay-Z is or even better but no, he's just an average rapper that nobody is really checking for but die hard hip hop fans. Smh

@ the end of the day nas isnt one of them rappers ... if he were then i would have to agree with ya ... but nas just wants to make music and put it out there ... he isnt the type that is really concerned with venturing into the business side of this game ..... and making alot of money and building his own label etc... building other artist and putting them out

Nas is one of those rappers that got into rap music to make rap music, Nas didn't get into HipHop to be a hustler and use the culture as a vehicle to wash dirty drug money or peddle "Ghetto-Techno" to people in Paris.

Nas is an excellent business man even tho' I don't have access to his financial holdings or his stock portfolio a judge looked at his earnings and decided he could afford to shell out 55K a month which is more than your average Reason poster makes in a year.

Nassir Jones seems less concerned with reinventing himself to appease pre-teens or pander himself to the Euro-crowd who lust for a "Ni99er in Paris" who prides himself in "Living so Italian".....in contrast Nas seems to be happy making organic Black music and street poetry thats rooted in African and Jamacain rhythms that reflect the true essence of the culture.

Illimatic dropped in 1994 and since then Nas has dropped 9 solo albums that have all gone Gold or Platinum, last years "Distant Relatives" was released to critical acclaim and he has two albums slated for release; a solo project and a collab album with Common. So at the moment he is more "relevant" than 50-Cent, Snoop and other rappers who's careers have declined over the years.

So let's salute Nas for being an artist instead of a corporate prostitute who treats the game like a hustle or con.

good post ;)

rakim and kool g rap are considered two of the greatest lyricists ever. neither of them own companies, have products, are producing an all star hip hop team etc. but they are revered as great and influential to the culture. i look at nas similar to that. not everyone has to be flashy, people have different personalities. if i come from the projects and im worth a million dollars now, im happy. is 10 or 100 million better? of course. but 1 mil is fine if you grew up with nothing lol. thats prolly where nas coming from.

The Rap industry is the only genre of music were an artist is aggresivley encouraged to pimp the culture and become a spokesmodel for different corporations and products. Rappers are encouraged to become prostitutes because corporate America knows the power of HipHops influence on consumers.

Some rappers are natural born prostitutes who business men can convince to hawk any product or brand themselves on any type of product, other rappers just have a Hustlers mentality to were they place financial wealth over their own artistic integrity and better judgement.

Outsiders have convinced naive rap fans that our artists should be applauded more for their corporate endeavors than their actual musical contributions.

Music fans in other genres never cared if Jon Lennon had a video game or if Bob Marley had a fashion line; they don't care if Bono becomes a CEO, or if Lady GaGa is on the Forbes list every year.

Its really sad how brainwashed some people are but I don't blame them I blame the influx of rappers who trained these naive people into having these skewed and myopic views on what a successful artist is.

I can see from this thread you're nothin but a loser who's to stupid to articulate himself and my posts are bothering you

All u do is cosign people smarter than yo dumb ass

it must suck to be a simpleton, you're not smart enough to make a valid post thats why u piggyback others

You take the time to name-call my brother and attack his intelligence but you can't deny the truths that I shared with him.

Why don't you see Rock fans discussing how much money Axel Rose has??

Why can't you imagine Mick Jagger selling flavored water and energy-drinks??

Why isn't Prince's business acumen discussed on the Internet and pop blogs??

Maybe corporate America and rap fans view our artists as drug-dealers and pimps who shouldn't be viewed as true musicians, maybe they view rappers as just impoverished animals from the ghetto who are willing to get rich or die trying to get rich.

Kurt Cobain couldn't have been forced to hawk products.
Marvin Gaye never had to sell tennis-shoes to be valued by fans

Its baffling how Tom is an admitted fan of MJ, a man who squandered his fortune through horrific business practices and died with a $400 million debt yet he faults Nas for not selling sex-toys and signing Pauly D?

Stop it Slime.

I'm a fan of mj's music and philanthropic efforts Besides that I couldn't care less about mj,you were misinformed if u thought otherwise

And shouts to 50 and jigga for dominating the rap game and then using hip hop as a stepping stone to become icons who help and influence people

Since when is black entrepreneurship frowned upon

No wonder nas looked so out of place and uncomfortable in the roc boys video wit puff and jigga who are real bosses especially the part when jigga said "This kind of talk is reserved for the bosses" nas had no business being in that scene

Nas aint a boss he an employee

Sorry we see it differently Im about black enterprise and entrepreneurship

You're obviously not u call them "puppets"

I just see the lunacy in this thread were other people see normalcy.

How foolish do we look criticizing a multi-millionaire from the projects with an 8th grade education on why he should have 10 million instead of 5 million when neither of us even has half a million?? Weredeydodatat??

This opens up a can of worms that can only make people look like LOSERs.....

We don't want to ask ourselves why an 8th grade drop-out has twice as much money as Tommy Bilfigger who has twice the education.

We don't want to ask ourselves why a weed-head from the worlds largest housing-projects is considered one of the best in his respected professions while H-rap discusses HipHop with you on AHH.

I'm all for entrepenureship but I don't know Nas real-estate holdings or have access to his stock-portfolio and he dosent seem like the type to base his value as a person on his bank account so its difficult to judge his business savvy.

Just read this thread... SMH.

Niggas must have not been born before 2000 to make a thread like this and compare his career to Ross of all people. Like Nas didn't sell 3 million in 96 (way more than a lot of these new cats today), like he didn't outsell Britney Spears in his first week when she was hot... and aside from all that, DUDE HAS BARS. His time commercially may have gone and went, he might not even go gold this album. But don't act like Nas never ran shit at some point in his career.

1. Rock is not built on maschimachismo, hustler, type mentality. Of all the music art forms, Rap music is the most direct and personal it takes place in first person terms. Rock are just songs that are written by the artist not meant to be about the artist (all of the time) but rap music is.

'i stab your brain with your nose bone' - first person tense so if you violate prodigy(mobb deep) you are lead to believe these are one of the consequences.

Jay and Nas rapped about getting money as do most rappers, thats why it bares a large interest to rap consumers.

2. Mick is an old man who makes hundreds of millions touring his audeince wont expect or accept that behaviour, because he sells out arenas globally and his rolling stone tongue image is known worldwide.

3. He went to war with his label and got his rights, but once again Prince wasnt singing about getting money or hustling in fact the opposite 'all that glitters is not gold'

------------

rap fans must be stupid not to notice what are coming out of rappers mouths, rap is manly the most manly music genre and more importantly they die to prove their shit 'is REAL' unlike songs about lucy in the stars with diamonds

-----------------

grow up, niggas.

(1.) Yeah Nas rapped about getting money and it made him a millionaire, he's on a yacht somewhere and were on here with a split-screen punching a clock and blogging about him. Most "rap-consumers" are not overly concerned with intricate details of another mans financial holdings unless it's a homosexual or a Golddigger and thats in Rock music and Rap music no exceptions.

(2.) No need to give a biography on a specific Rocker, I could use any Rocker and the story would be the same, they don't go out of their way to hawk products with the same aggression that rappers do. Fact.

(3.) No need to give a biography on a specific Singer I could use any Singer and the story remains the same, they are not sought after for endorsements by corporations with the same aggression that rappers are Fact.

Rap music is soooooooo aggressive that our two most popular artists are Emenim & LiL Wayne two men who are known for cross-dressing and homo-eroticism, yeah our next popular artists are Kanye West and Jayz two effeminate males who rap about their fondness for Europe.

You must be talking about that aggressive Drake and the hardcore Wale or maybe that bully Big Sean who has a fetish for Chardonnay wine.

Thank god we have the hyper-aggressive Wiz Khalifah smacking around Amber Rose while using J. Coles "Work-out" song as the sound track to beating her ass.

I learned something today.

Nas is definitely blown out of proportion by those claiming he is the undisputed GOAT, and I can't think of one aspect in which he is the greatest IMO. I like him because he is a good raw spitter for lack of a better term.
