It has the exact same formula as The Massacre and GRODT. You can stack up all of 50s albums next to each other and they are built from the same blueprint. It's better than Curtis, but it's nothing special. And the singles were some of the worst foulness known to man.

And Jay-Z hasn't done the same thing for his whole career?

It has similar content to his other projects because he is what he is. A gangster rapper who makes hits. If anything, he should be applauded for not conforming and taking the soft route or trying to dickride another region's sound.

I'm not really even talking about content. Jay does tend to rap about the same things over and over again but as far as the music goes his albums typically show some sort of change musically. Black Album, Kingdom Come, American Gangster, BP3, WTT are all very different sounding albums.

With every 50 album we get the "Patiently Waiting" knock off collab with Em. The "21 Questions/PIMP/Candy Shop" knock off single. The "What Up Gangsta" knock off (like Crimewave, which I actually like) and then the "Many Man" knock off when 50 makes an introspective song. The problem is that with each album the knock offs are starting to become more and more wack/redundant.

On a side note, I remember hating on The Massacre when it first came out but in retrospect that albums not bad at all aside from Candy Shop and Lil Bit, and aside from GRODT its 50 at his most ambitious point.

Crime Wave sounds like What Up Gangsta??? In my opinion, this album had its own distinct sound. All his collaborations with Eminem sound different too. What's the introspective song on BISD?? This is probably his most aggressive album all the way through.

And Jay's first 4 albums didn't show a lot of change musically. Especially the shit he dropped from 98-2000.

They don't sound exactly like those songs but it seems like he tries to go back to the same formula that made GRODT a classic. Honestly, BISD is not a bad album on its merits alone, but when you consider he's made this same album many times before, and much better in the past, that's where it loses his replay value and overall value. It's the same problem I think KRIT might run into if he doesn't start changing up his shit a little, and KRIT's catalog is way better than 50's at this point in my opinion but I still think he needs to do something different.

And as far as Jay, RD and In My Lifetime have their similarities, but I think with every subsequent release his albums changed pretty heavily. There's nothing like "Hard Knock Life" or "Money Cash Hoes" or even "Money Ain't A Thing" on those albums. And IM3 sounds a lot different, and so on.

BP3 is far from the greatest Jay album, and the same can be said about Kingdom Come. But at least I know when Jay drops an album the shit will be different than something he's dropped in the past, for better or worse.

All the material from Vol. 2 through The Dynasty album could be one album. Doesn't take away from the quality of songs. They follow the same general formula. Yeah BP3 sounded different but it wasn't all that so it doesn't matter. I would take a higher quality album that sticks to a formula than a bad album that was "different". I understand where you're coming from with the KRIT angle but to me you're talking more content wise because sonically I don't really hear many similarities between BISD and GRODT. When I listen to the album I take it for what it is, hot music. Not comparing it to his previous work.

Foh @ Krit who has no classics having a better catalogue than 50

wow !!!

I'd personally sacrifice GRODT trying for Krit's catalogue if it came down to it. I don't think KRIT's got anything as good as GRODT yet but ever since 50 hasn't put out anything that compares to KRIT's shit. And KRIT's mixtapes are structured and sound like albums

True this shit!

@abn562, i agree The Massacre is better than GRODT! Ive never heard anyone else say it! I love the Turkish, Egyptian and Indian instrumentals in his music! The belly dancing zills in 'Baby By Me' on BISD are fantastic!
