Sure in most current matches you are correct, but if you were trying that with someone with an extensive boxing background, one miss your gonna get knocked out. You dont start on the ground in MMA you start standing up, gotta get past the punches first.
bow to royalty;188905 said:I think boxing is more popular than MMA. I figure the top 2 names in boxing could sell well with any fight. Mayweather vs whoever. Pacquiao vs whoever. And the 2 of them vs each other would outsell any UFC fight that could be put together. People like seeing boxing more in fights. Even in the UFC the best fights are stand-up fights. Grappling makes fighters look scared a lot of the time IMO. In pre-fight interviews the fighters will be like "ya, i'm gonna stand toe to toe with him and knock him out". Then they get hit in their shit and wanna start grappling.
Grappling is boring a lot of the time. If the sport changes and becomes more of a stand-up sport than it is, they may produce legends.

You ask the average person in the street who the Gracies are and they dont fucking know and dont care. You ask them who Oscar De La Hoya is...they know. A LEGEND is somebody EVERYBODY knows. And The Gracie family were the ones who started it but they left WAY early so that dont count they have their own shit going.
You one of those sports nerds that know EVERYTHING about the most unknown nigga including his shoe & dick size and you dont realize that not everybody is a loser ass nigga and pays attention to the 8th man on the 76ers bench and shit. Regular people know who ALI is you the type to know who his sparring partners are then try to clown niggas that dont like its normal to be knowing a muthafukkas Social Security number and shit. Save the insults nigga I was asking the question from a regular sports viewers perceptive not some bumass nigga that got UFC action figures and shit. Chill the fuck out.
Rampage12;187436 said:Yes, all MMA fights start standing up but all an MMA guy would have to do was shoot for one takedown get it and then the boxer would either get submitted or GNP'd to death. Watch it will happen to James Toney if he gets his wish and gets a fight in the UFC. And why do you think he keeps stalking Dana White about fighting in the UFC cause there's no money in boxing no more.
swadesw;189567 said:mma is more popular bc the only fight it could do to out do the ufc is the 1 u mentioned yet any other fight ufc will beat boxing....
getchamoneyrigh;192656 said:B-hop is an exception you cant normally be 40 and box at a high level like you can in MMA. I am sure any boxer that goes into MMA would have some training. And we have seen MMA fighters with min. training get into the octagon and win.
DarcSkies777;177909 said:Why hasnt it produced any legends yet? Sure they have stars like Tito Ortiz and Rampage but no legends.
....Can we still consider UFC to be a young sport since it's been around since 1993? Maybe that's why?
Or are most people too squeamish and think it's too violent?
Anyway I always wondered why it is that there are no legendary people in the UFC. Even the WWF/WWE has legends and that isnt even "real."
BTW this isnt a UFC vs. Boxing thread. Im not attacking either I respect both. Just something I noticed.
bcotton2000@yahoo.com;186961 said:Yea MMA dont got that great technical aspect that you get from a great boxing match
bow to royalty;178303 said:Good thread. I think it's because those boxers have more rivalries/epic battles (except Tyson but he's just too entertaining to not watch). I don't follow UFC as closely, so I'm not sure but I don't see the same rivalries there. But I think most people like boxing more (as a sport, even if they don't like the current boxers out), because the most exciting thing in a fight is a KO.
The best MMA fights are ones that are stand-up fights, which is a lot of the reason why Chuck Lidell was so popular. Grappling is holding MMA back, but they can't get rid of it.
MurillaNinjaScrilla;193224 said:Are you kidding me? Everything you can do in boxing you can do in MMA and more. Mixing all martial arts is an art form in it's own
iAMNOVA;193191 said:C/S meanwhile u have cats that are still fighting and in title contention at 50 ie Randy Couture...try that shit in boxing...lol its seems like in MMA u dont get good til ur 163yrs old...i mean even over hyped Brock Lesnar is like 32 Anderson Silva 36...hell ur call it quits or getting ready to around thoughs ages in every other sport sans Baseball and golf...and yeah Brock Lesnar is a perfect example of someone with minimal training who wins fights like i said...in boxing u just cant be bigger and stronger than ur opponent youll take a serious L at the pro lvls...Look at Tysons latter yrs...or foreman vs Ali...skill in boxing trumps size and power 99% however in MMA its just the opposite..IMO
Rampage12;195000 said:You're an idiot, I guess you're too young to remember George Foreman winnin the Heavyweight title when he was 46. And I wouldn't say Brock Lesnar has minimal training he was a All-American wrestler at Minnesota which is the perfect starting base for MMA.

MurillaNinjaScrilla;193236 said:lol Chuck Liddell was a division 1 wrestler and used his wrestling to control a lot of his fights. Just because someone isn't on the ground doesn't mean they aren't using a form of grappling.
bow to royalty;196657 said:You can beat around the bush if you want to, but he's a stand-up fighter and I don't think any1'll disagree. His only grappling was basically doing sprawls to avoid a takedown. So the only "grappling" he did was to avoid grappling. Submissions are boring man, and that's not how people wanna see a fight end 99% of the time. I haven't seen many top 10 submission hi-lights.
getchamoneyrigh;196610 said:Man the HW division was weak as its ever been at that point. Michael Moorer retired soon after cause he was washed up as well. I'd love to see Foreman at that time vs. Lewis or either of the Kiltzscho (SP) brothers.
freshb651;178006 said:like Mayweather said UFC isn't really skill required like boxing is,don't get me wrong those guys are talented but anybody can lift weights and fuck people up.
