He was at one point (or at least inserious contention for it) and he still is lyrical but he just doesnt make good music like he used to.

If we're going to be totally honest, he never made good music. He was just a good lyricist and was just endorsed by Dre and had the machine behind him. But if you were to make a playlist of stuff that came out from 1999-2004 if you were really being honest, Eminem would only have two or three songs that still have replay value.

Actually I think Em's lyrics suffer because of all the forced multis. He's more interested in showing off his lyrical gymnastics than making a proper song. Also, when you are rapping in a zany/crazy style it is ok to change the topic every 2 bars, which makes it easier to shove all those multis in there. Obviously, he wrote some great stuff that contained multis and told a coherent story but those days are in the past.
