To answer the question: Instead of X trying to elevate his craft and cement his name with Big, Nas, Jay and Pac he allowed his wreckless drug addiction to elevate more and considering he's been an addict since his teen years, he could've been got help so that's no excuse..but in the lyric department he gruff abrasive delivery wasn't technically complex and vivid as Nas, Jay or Big. Some (maybe a small percentage) would say him and Pac was the same when it came to emotional driven rhymes, but Pac already had that emotion-flow style on lock so X would've came off as a carbon copy..but he made it work for him in his career.
