i love how jay-z is looked as a failure on the i.c. you lame ass niggaz wouldn't know success if it slapped you in the mouth. anyway jay probably knew those 2 would end up dead and didnt want to join them.

Same reason why Nas, Redman, etc didn't blow up. Last time i check Reasonable Doubt went gold quicker than Illmatic, Dare is a Darkside, etc.

Nas and Redman didn't blow up? Woooooooooooow.

Y didn't eminem blow up when big and pac were alive?

Cos he never even put out an Album out when they were alive or had a record deal he was pretty much working a minimum wage job when they were both alive

Were as Jay Z had an Album out in 1996 Reasonable Doubt his best 1 infact

Infinite bruh...

smh.

only on the IC

this is like asking why didnt Em blow up on his first album.

Maybe cuz only a select few do that and its only with major labels backing them albums(50 Cent/Game)

Easy answer.. Everyone can't be GOAT at once.. Everything has it's time and place.. Funny thing is that half the dudes named as being the GOAT back then would jump at the chance to get picked up by Jay now.. Regardless of how he pairs up to Big and Pac, you don't reach the levels he is at without being somewhat good.. Just my .02..

Jay Z was rapping like Das Efx back in '94, that's why.

Jay Z had to follow the blueprint of Biggie to become successful. He eventually made his own lane, but wouldn't be where he is if Pac & Biggie didn't die IMO

True. Jay-Z used to rap like those underground rappers.

This was before Jay-Z joined forces with the satanic powers.

LOL @ niggas saying Jay-Z wasn't on a major label,Priority Records had NWA,Eazy-E,Ice Cube's solos,Ice-T,Scarface,

Master P,all before Jay. Shit,Priority might have as many classic albums as Def Jam. The talent pool was way too

deep in hip-hop at that time for Jay to compete,Fugees,Tribe,Busta,Nas,Wu,Raekwon,Ghost,Meth,Redman,Ice-Cube

Scarface,Master P. Tupac and Big were just way more popular and if they both live, especially Tupac I don't think Jay

would be AS successful as he is because Pac wasn't gonna allow it. I definetly think Big would still shine because he

was Pac's equal but at the time Jay was looked at as a little nigga.

Ya'll can talk why was Jay not successful all ya'll want, it's got to burn niggas soul to see Jay-z has lapped them many times over since. I think that's why so many rappers have a problem with dude, particularly LL Cool J.

when they died he didnt have to spit good bars to compete in the game anymore.

big never woulda let him be in his commision group and put out that sunshine babyface song.

same goes for everything mase ever did.

i think if he didnt blow up the way he did, reasonable doubt would be an obscure album only known for the nostalgia among the 90's hip hop heads similar to gang starr and boot camp clik albums from the same time.

like any real artist he had to "grow" and he did..matter of FACT he grew to be the best to ever do it in hip-hop..regardless of how you judge, from albums sold,to fans,to sell out shows....

The Slim Shady LP has sold around 5 million and made him not only blow up but an instant super star and My Name Is was a huge Hit. C'mon son what world you living in

Reasonable Doubt didn't even go Gold for a very long time

2pac>>>>Biggie Smalls>>>>>Jay Z

IMO 2pac's music was way ahead of both but both Biggie's Albums are better than Jay Z's best Album

^master p's ice cream man came out in 1995 its what blew him up with bout it, this is while pac and big were living
