It wasn't generated off of him being blogs b/c the blogs didn't even know who he was until after Jay had signed him. The blogs didn't even know Cole until Roc Nation pushed that very video I posted virally--thus allowing everyone else to find him whichever way they did. And don't front like no matter where you found him you didn't first know and see that he was a Roc Nation signee which helped peak your interest. No matter how you slice it he was catapulted up alongside the other freshman of the time b/c of his Jay/Roc Nation affiliation.
how you going tell people what peaked their interest
I haven't listened to one Rita Ora or J Elec song and they both Roc Nation
Damn dog, reading comprehension not your strong suit?
I said there would have been no J. Cole on blogs for fans to check if it weren't for Jay & Roc Nation b/c he wasn't on any blogs before getting signed.
Here's a timeline.
1.) Cole makes the right connections (possibly stemming from him going to college awhile w/ Vanessa Simmons; thus why he's always going on about shorty) and gets an opportunity to try out for Jay.
2.) The little nigga from the Ville got a deal.
3.) News breaks that Jay-Z has signed the first artist to his new Roc Nation imprint.
4.) That in the studio footage I posted earlier is pushed out to all the major video sites (payola in action; this is when I first heard of Cole. I thought the video was hilarious and searched him & found The Come Up)
5.) The Warm Up drops... takes some time to pick up steam. (This is where he picks up the first of his fanbase... more people catch on later as the months pass on)
6.) Cole finally starts picking up some major steam leading into his big arrival on "A Star Is Born" & the Friday Night Lights mixtape.
7.) Fast forward to his album and then where we are now.
All this stems from the Jay-Z connect whether you personally are aware of it or not. There was no J. Cole pulse, let alone a buzz, before the Jay-Z signing.
