Comeback to me when Common crafts a timeless masterpiece like 'Dear Mama' or 'Keep ya Head up'....Dumb fuck

What are you not getting? In this context, timeless masterpieces are determined by one thing, and one thing ONLY...how recognizable a track is. Of course Pac will win that, by default, because he's the more mainstream visible emcee.

But it still does not speak to quality or skillset, neither of which are determined by commercial accessibility. I'm sure most people think The Beatles have more timeless classics than The Temptations. It doesn't mean that The Beatles are better even though, by your logic, we could come to that conclusion.

pac has better music, common is the better mc, but pac also had a negative effect that people do not want to acknowledge

Common never had the attention of the streets, he will never be idolized like Tupac.

Alot of people listen to Commons music but i never heard anybody say they could "feel" his music the way they say that about Pac.

Thats why Common does commercials for Gap, peop0le who wear Gap are his true fanbase.

lyrically i prefer common but a goat list looks at the complete artist...imo pac brought more to the table as a whole...my goat list changes daily but pac will never fall past 5 and on some days he as high as 2...common never cracks my top 10

I think you got your definitions mixed up or something...

Main Entry: mas·ter·piece

Pronunciation: \ˈmas-tər-ˌpēs\

Function: noun

Date: 1600

1 : a work done with extraordinary skill; especially : a supreme intellectual or artistic achievement

2 : a piece of work presented to a medieval guild as evidence of qualification for the rank of master

Main Entry: time·less

Pronunciation: \ˈtīm-ləs\

Function: adjective

Date: circa 1560

1 archaic : premature, untimely

2 a : having no beginning or end : eternal b : not restricted to a particular time or date

3 : not affected by time : ageless

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/timeless

Where do you see recognizable at? You still haven't listed Common's quality work because we know he doesn't have the commercial sussess.

And the last time I checked, the Beatles and the Temptations represented two different genres of music so that's not a good comparison.

Common is a better actor then tupac for me... I haven't listened to common much but i liked "i used to lover h.e.r" and the "bitch in you" also that love song with mary j blidge. None of his music has an effect on me tho on a grand scale... I hardly see common anywhere or mentioned other then in hip-hop forums. Not that he is bad but he doesn't have a mass impact. You can say pac never crafted a classic album (me against the world) ... but you can't take away his classic material

1. life goes on

2. keep ya head up

3. dear mama

4. changes

5. I wonder if heaven got a ghetto

6. Do for love

7. Smile

8. White man's world

9. They don't give a fuck about us

10 . Fuck the world

11. Bury me a G

12. Letter to my unborn

13. Staring at the world threw my rearview

14. Hellrazor

15. Still ballin

16. High till I die

17. Krazy

18. How long will they mourn me

19. Under pressure

20. Me against the world

Those are some of the ones i'm listening too right now I think common may be better but I think when people say pac was the best I think they mean overall.. and also because of his personality and character.. also don't matter how complex and intelligent you are one day you are gonna just wake up and be like "Fuck the world" and that's when the beauty of pac's music is realized.

2Pac on leaps and bounds.

Common is too monotone for the most part while Pac adapted to many concepts and different type tracks.

I have both artists in my Top 5, and both are extremely skilled at what they do. They both have impressive catalogs. With that being said: I place 2pac higher on my GOAT list than Common. I acknowledge Common's music and lyricism. Common's use of poetic convention & figurative language is above average to say the least. I credit Common for making some of the best hip hop love songs of the 90s, snatching LL's crown right off his head. I like Common's positive energy on tracks & subject matter. "I Used To Love H.E.R." is probably the greatest song in Hip Hop, and the theme of hip hop being a woman is still in use today. It's kind of weird, because when Common released that song Hip Hop was in it's golden age. Common is certainly worthy of GOAT status.

However, 2pac was/is just amazing. His songs always reflected the status quo of the times and the plight of the urban black male. Whereas Common's songs were very broad in delivery, Pac's was very detailed and personal, and conveyed the emotions of the characters he used. "Brenda's Got a Baby" is still one of the most moving songs in Hip Hop, and a lot of what he rapped about is comparable to the movie Precious from last year. "Part Time Mutha" & "Papa'z Song" were no exceptions to Pac's style and continued the trend vivid stories that evoked various feelings from the listeners. "Dear Mama" was the first song I heard of it's kind, and is still a trend in use today; Nas, Kanye, and even Lil B made songs for/about their mothers, and who set that trend? His use of voice altering equipment for songs like "Soulja Story" or "Soulja's Revenge" was the first i've heard of it's kind and a tactic used to create characters for his stories - something Common hasn't done, and also something artists like Nas have used. His music is timeless & his techniques for making said music are still in use today.

If Tupac is not high on a GOAT list for his musical accomplishments, then he should be included merely for his inspiration to Hip Hop. Many of the greats have bit his rhymes and his formula for commercial success & controversy. This is a good match up though. I like this.

all im saying is that tupac vs common is way closer than most people think. and it aggravates me that people who havent listened to anything other than a couple common songs are on here saying he hasnt made any deep songs which is complete bullshit. and fyi tupac has quite a few whack songs. im not saying one's bettter than the other, its all a matter of opinion. Common's my favorite mc so ofcourse i think he's better but i respect tupac i just cant stand these ignorant fucks sitting there and talking shit when they have even heard common's disco

Common has made a LOT of deep songs..... that's his strongest feature if you ask me. his ability to make meaningful, soulful, songs. but that's his shit.... i haven't heard him outside of that box with a lot of aggression or what not. he's monotonous. please list the wack 2Pac songs.... i'd love to see the list.

but you're right though, mistain, a lot of these other kids wanna comment on shit they haven't even heard.
