1999:Mobb Deep

2000:Ghostface Killah

2001:Nas

2002:Nas

U got alot of years fucked up..especially 1999..fuck outta here

True but I think 1994, 2001, 2002 & 1995 is 100% right.

1996 could been Pac year & 1999 maybe Dr Dre.

Im with u on 98, but thats debatable too..between x, juve and jay id say..96 I gotta give that to pac and 2000 im not sure but as much as I fuck wit ghost I dont think I could put him in the top spot

2000 was probably either Em or Nelly. They had the biggest albums that year wit MMLP & Country Grammar

its crazy how Em and Nelly both dominated their two biggest years (00 & 02)

with MMLP and Country Grammar (00) & TES and Nellyville (02)

Everybody who has voted for Eminem is basically saying that Eminem wins because he sold the most units. He had a movie that did well in Hollywood so therefore he wins.

But as far as quality and reaching the core Hip Hop fans, people that respect the 4 elements will tell you that Stillmatic, Lost Tapes and God's Son shit all over anything Eminem has ever done.

In fact, there's very few rappers/rap groups/rap artists that have 3 consecutive albums that can touch Stillmatic, Lost Tapes and God's Son and Eminem isn't one of them.

Any other day, y'all say drake is dominating hip hop and yet when has he had album of the year? Y'all know wtf the question is yet y'all play dumb and change shit up everytime it comes to Eminem. If you wanted to know who had the best album then you wouldve asked that

Obviously Eminem. 2002 is Nas's best year, and though no one remembers this now, he was definitely wearing the crown at that point when it comes to who was the King of New York. But Eminem was a global icon who was at his peak commercially and while i think the Eminem show is overrated, at the time it was his most critically acclaimed album, plus you add in 8 mile and eminem was the biggest artist since Bodyguard era Whitney. Give or take Will Smith.

Scarface had the best album of 2002 but I don't ever hear anyone playing that album *shrugs*

he should of labelled the thread which album do you like better, cause his responses make no sense on the topic of who dominated that year. Album sales, movie sales, and signing the next big thing all count, just like drake has been dominate even though i think his albums are lukewarm or wack even.

I'm gonna go out on a limb; How old were you guys in 2002?

I was 29 in 2002 and my taste in Hip Hop had matured (I grew up on Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, KRS, Rakim, Public Enemy, NWA and A Tribe Called Quest). I used to hang out with other people in my generation and I don't ever remember bumping Eminem that entire year.

I can remember we used to bump the hell out of Stillmatic, Lost Tapes and God's Son. When we rolled blunts we'd cue up one of Nas's CDs.

Again, I'm going out on a limb but you guys were probably preteens in 2002. If Eminem was hot amongst preteens then thats great but no Black men in their 20s or 30s were bumping Eminem. I can say with 100% certainty that there was no DJ in any Black club in America that played a song by Eminem to get the party started or to pack the dance floor.

I feel stupid for arguing with white people who were preteens in 2002 about who was the hottest rapper that year.

So the nigga sold 10 million records of TES and NONE of them were african american males in between the ages of 20-30? This is a simple yes or no question cause you seem to have all the answers.

Slim if you wanted to know who had the better album(s) in 2002, why the fuck didn't you just specify that in the fuckin OP. Instead of gettin your panties in a bunch cuz it's not going the way you want it. Then you wann bring age in it like that has shit to do with anything, I was 17 when these albums came out btw. Em was a bigger artist in 2002 than Nas.

He dropped Stillmatic in late 2001 and that rolled into 2002, then he dropped the Lost Tapes and God Son in late 2002. And they were all dope. And imo they're better than anything Eminem dropped around that same time.

Also "From Illmatic to Stillmatic: The remixes" dropped that summer, as well as I'm gonna be alright with J Lo and Just in case remix with Jaheim, Nas owned 02

Thats what I'm saying. Out of those 10 million records sold there wasn't one Black person in my generation that would tell you Eminem was better than Nas. If you can find one Black person in my generation that thinks Eminem is better than Nas you can start that ban right now.

Nas took out Jay Z, the King of New York while Eminem was struggling with Benzino and Ja Rule...and he had the machine behind him.

Nas did it without the machine behind him.

This is really a David vs Goliath thread. Eminem had the machine behind him and Nas didn't.

Eminem may have more votes, but considering that he had Interscope, Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre in his corner, its quite impressive that Nas has as many votes as he does.
