Who Dominated 2002 - Eminem vs Nas

I was fucking with them both, but Em was everywhere. Obviously it aint fair to compare them in terms of popularity, but that was Em at his peak both commercially and critically. And Eminem Show is my favorite album of his, so I give him the edge.

"I sold what your whole album sold in my first week" - Em to Nas

I guess Eminem dominated that year, but i wasn't really checking for him like that outside of the 8 Mile movie and hearing 50. The Lost Tapes was my shit though and i was still playing Stillmatic. God's son was cool but i wasn't on repeat like the other two albums.

Nas had a great year too.

Stillmatic was still rockin and then God's Son dropped at the end of the year.

With "The Lost Tapes" in between...

Musically the question is not as absurd as some of you are making it out to be...

That's 3 quality projects in a row coming off defeating Jay-Z in battle with 2 dropping in 2002...

Nas get's my vote...

The Eminem Show and a few songs on 8 Mile Soundtrack are what I am judging...

The GOAT showed and proved why he is considered such during that time period...

He dropped Stillmatic in late 2001 and that rolled into 2002, then he dropped the Lost Tapes and God Son in late 2002. And they were all dope. And imo they're better than anything Eminem dropped around that same time.

I need a clear criteria before voting. Commercially it's Eminem, musically it's Nas, what are we voting on?

GTFOH and how do I know there will be niggas ONLY on the Reason trying to downplay Marshall ? Eminem what kind of question is that ? But it being the IC I won't be surprised if it's 10-1 in NaS favour against Eminem. Reason rule #1: "Thou shall not talk down on NaS or any Nation of NaSlem member"

But facts are facts. Eminem had his third best-selling album, proved he wasn't a one hit wonder, showed the hypocrisy of modern media and American families, delivered a classic album (and arguably his BEST album). Not to mention, he dropped TWO albums that went diamond that year (8 Mile), broke the box office, creating a classic hip-hop movie. THEN signed 50 Cent/G-unit, dropped back to back hit records and became an official solidified household name - WORLDWIDE before putting 50 Cent on 100%. He got his third and fourth diamond albums, and set the record for highest first week sales for a rapper at the time.

Not to take away from NaS but he was embroiled in the lasting parts of the Jay-Z/NaS beef. He dropped an amazing album but if we talking about who DOMINATED that year, easily Marshall Mathers. Two albums, a movie, clothing line, set the world on it's ears, there's no question.

Yeah but, Eminem had to do this to sell records;

The question is; Who Dominated 2002

That question is in the eyes of the beholder. Whatever your criteria for "dominating" is.

Personally I think Nas dominated. This is a Hip Hop forum so logically the question is; Who dominated Hip Hop, not who dominated pop culture.

If we were on a pop, top 40 message board and the question was; who dominated 2002, Eminem would be the clear answer with no questions asked. But since this is a Hip Hop message board, the question is; dominated what?

But if you look at the O/P I clearly stated that I got the idea from another thread. Perhaps to fully answer @"Built 4 cuban linx" question we need to go back to the original thread from which this question is derived.
