I don't think it's possible to work for God. People might thinks so, but to say that leaves room to name your profession, no matter how "sinful" it might be, and say "I'm doing God's Work". I would even go on a limb to say that even if the work is good from a moral standpoint, people don't know what God intends to use their labor for. As far as I know, I work for myself and if it happens to be what God wants, so be it.

Lately I've been wondering if 'to work for god' means: in all that you do, do it for god. So instead of doing your job for your employer/yourself, do the job as though you were doing it for god. God being the highest CEO there is. And it could go for anything, clean your house not for yourself(etc), but for god. Doing all work for god might help to humble us too and help us to always do our best.

I think it means what it means, you work for God. We're called "God's servants" so clearly we some how are working for God. Well, the believers are anyway. They gotta follow all his rules and obey his biblical commands. They put in work at church, spreading the word in the streets etc.
That's working for God imo. I now do my own bidding with my own mindset with my own beliefs.
