Who are the best rappers from the UK?

Apart from a few artists, UK hip hop always sucked. It has always lacked authenticity, always one step behind the US. Only Euro hip hop that could compete with US hip hop was French hip hop and that's because radio stations overthere were obligated to play a % of homegrown sh*t. These Antillian, African and Arab French innercity youth also live in the same, if not worse, conditions as some of these kids in the projects of a city in the US.

There's a reason hardly any UK hip hop artist blew after all these years. This joint was dope back in the day. Who still remembers this joint?

Estelle before most of you knew her...

This caught on after garage/ 2 step fell off because it was authentic. Doper than most hip hop produced in London FOH. Can't believe this dropped a decade ago. I'm getting old lol...

Listening to brittish slang & rap u wouldnt think its actually english. My guess also is that UK slang seems to derive from some african & possibily caribean type lineage.

That's because as an island we have a lot of docks where different cultures would come in to work on the dockyards. Its why uk is one of the most cosmpolitan countries in the world.

I don't think they sound as good as people like Teflon, DVS, Adz, Margs, Joe Black etc wen they try to use hip hop beats

Kano, Wiley and the whole Roll Deep made doper music than most rappers from UK anyway. Like I said, there's a reason no 'real' rapper from the UK has blown (if we exclude Slick Rick). UK rap lacks authenticity for the most part. UK doesn't have the ingredients to produce quality hip hop for the most part. Even heads from there aren't gonna support a weak version of US hip hop.

Like I said, when it comes to hip hop France is the only country that can compete with the US qualitywise.

This came out in '05 but this was doper than most rap from there.

Doper than most of these UK hip hop videos posted in this thread.

Whassup with Akala? He was one of the better rappers from there. A halfbreed trying to spit conscious sh*t b ut he was aiight still. Speaking of Akala, you could argue his sis Ms. Dynamyte blew and made waves internationally but she wasn't consistent and fell off hard.

Different strokes for different folk i can't get into that Roll Deep, Kano, Akala ish

Also Americans are always gonna be insecure of U.K. rappers who rap about the struggle, inner city life, the streets because in America europe is portrayed as safe that's why u think it's not autheantic however if u spent a day in places like Brixton, Harlesden, Peckham, Kilburn, Ladbroke Grove etc places these rappers come from u will see they like american rappers are just products of their enviroment

Idk if he constitutes as rap, maybe more hip hop relation but Sampha is blowing up in the states. Sbtrkt and sampha are goat live

Yeah different strokes.

You don't f*ck with Kano though? I can understand why you don't like grime as a genre but Kano got mic presence, lyrics, subject matter, hooks etc. Haven't been messing with his recent stuff but I liked that P & Q's when it dropped. Back then that sound was fresh and new. Kano repped where he was from.

I'm from the Caribbean and been to both London, Birmingham and NY and while you had some slums in the British cities it ain't like in the caribbean, NY and even France. Alot of these youths in UK are trying to emulate what they see brothers from the US doing. They glorify ignorance and black on black crime instead of working on their future.
