when ppl evoke nazi germany i do tend to cringe...but then again i don't see anything wrong with drawing parallels when appropriate

Of course there's nothing wrong with drawing parallels when appropriate, but imo, the nazi germany parallels are not appropriate. They're ridiculous and unconducive.

but when you say sensationalize i think facts being manipulated or outright mischaracterized by the media for viewers, hits...basically the lost of any objectivity

Yes. That's at least some of what I said, no?

i was looking for a specific example

Didn't I give you some? The Nazi Germany and genocide examples, for instance. There are several examples in this very thread. Just the fact that many people either disregarded or excused the violence from the "other side" as well. Are you telling me there aren't people on social media sensationalizing this? Not sure why you're asking for what appears to be easily accessible, but OK, if you still want a "documented" example, here's one from this very thread:

though you could very well argue that most journalism today has lost all objectivity and is more personality driven

Yes, that is also a belief I hold. It's just a more general version of my point. I don't understand though. Are you agreeing or disagreeing?

When i spoke of sensationalism and examples i was just clarifying my intial post

Trump is no Hilter...

But i dont think the Nazi Germany parallels drawn are all that ridiculous either

Considering Trumps openly hostile relations with the media; his record of blaming foreigners and minorities for taking away jobs and killing Americans; and Trump using his social media account and white house officials to spread "alternative facts" aka propaganda

Tactics similar to those used most famously by Hilter to control the narrative

You view the comparisons as unconductive, others such as myself view them as a warning and a call to action

Trump isnt going to exterminate millions of Mexicans but dude is unhinged and is surrounded by ppl with highly problematic views

And we see how his tactics and xenophobic rhetoric have already emboldened the worst among us

The media often either leans to the right or left of the political spectrum but generally speaking that is no means discount the system of checks and balances the press provides

We should all be getting our news from multiple sources anyways

that said, my main point of contention is this idea that these ppl are just some fringe element AND not a big threat

Well, OK, I guess we might disagree, here. Though if depends on what you mean by "ppl" and "big." At this moment, at the very least, I still believe that the alternative right white supremacists are a fringe element and are a threat but not a significant threat, especially not a significantly proactively violent threat; if they were, there would have been a lot more than just one murder victim.

while the men and women who marched may exist in the crevices, like others have pointed out they’re also our neighbors. potential jurors. teachers. loan officers. and there are reports that white supremacist groups have infiltrated law enforcement. so they pose a threat to any person of color they interact with

[/quote]

By ppl i meant the protestors who gathered together to protest Charlottesville's plan to remove statues of men who viewed the ownership of african ppl as proper and or a god given right

Who share the sentiment that their whiteness is under attack or and their country is being taken away from them

Many of whom self identify as alt right, white supremacist, white nationalist, Trump supporters, neo Nazis, Confederate sympathisers, etc

Witch hunt? Lol

Can i say all those ppl are David duke acolytes for sure, no

But many of these same ppl were marching with torches and were chanting "blood and soil" which is a Nazi slogan, rallying call

Thats a fact...

Yes thankfully only 3 ppl died and a 19 were injured. One blk man was brutally assaulted by a group of white protestors chanting slurs

Still that doesnt prove the alt right and their affiliates arent a significant violent threat

And regardless as i suggested the ppl who marched and ppl who think like them are indeed our neighbors and thus a direct and indirect threat to the safety AND liberty of ppl of color, Muslims, jews, etc. And honestly I worry more about what these ppl can do in positions of power and influence than anything else

That said, free speech is a two way street. Say what u want but than others are free to organize and respond as they see fit....and as long as they dont break any laws

This isn't Haiti and Haitians were not held in captivity in a foreign land being raised as slaves. These circumstances are far different. Haitians fought for a country they owned with great numbers. Know the facts. Anyway blacks have fought for years in this country. I guess you missed the memo?

maybe they all aren't david duke but they pose no less danger to me a woman of color if they truly believe that ppl who look like me are the enemy and/or their whiteness is under attack

"They" as in the white supremacists? Yes and no? Yes, they can be threatening, but there can be a clear difference in level of threat between a white supremacist politician and a white supremacist deadbeat-loser. And if and when they do legitimately threaten, the simple solution is to reasonably defend oneself to the best of one's abilities. Yes, the danger's there, but I see no reason to cower in fear and swing at ghosts (not saying that's what you're doing).

not to mention those marchers in charlottesville choose to march with and cohort with white supremacist, neo nazis without little to no hesitancy which makes them just as bad imho

I agree, but humans are greedy and opportunistic and often with no scruples. It's expected. In these times, I've seen much stranger bedfellows on all sides. People are willing to sacrifice their principles and join with small rivals in order to reach similar goals and compete with bigger rivals.

also lets please retire this idea that the liberal media or identity politics is largely responsible for their continued existence. it is ridiculous. same as this notion that the left willfully harbors just as many problematic, dangerous factions as the right

No, let's not retire that idea. If you want to do so, then simply disprove it. I still maintain that all or most media (including the liberal media) and identity politics has a hand in the antagonistic climate that exists today. And the left also has problematic, dangerous factions, just like the right. Imo, that's common sense and clearly apparent. If we can't see this, then we're part of the problem.

You keep trying to paint these marchers and those who share their sentiments as being harmless unemployed losers with the exception of a few potentially homicidal crazies

Thats not true lol

Many of the ppl carrying the torches and chanting blood and soil in the photos have been outted. One was a teacher. One was the president of his schools Republican Committee

Many of them could very well have a future in politics

Many of the ppl who watched the events unfold on tv who sympathize with the alt right, white supremacist and white nationalist are in goverment and law enforcement

So its not so easy to escape their reach

What factions on the left are comparable to the neo nazis or white nationalists ????

And the media is guilty of a lot but my point of contention is that the liberal media and specifically the identity politics of the left has played a big part in inflaming and perpetuating racial discontent that has driven white ppl particularly white men to join the alt right, neo Nazis, vote for Trump

And this bizaro idea that racial discord is caused by speaking out about discrimination, not by discrimination itself

Which is a popular argument among the right

Again i believe its ridiculous

This country was built on white supremacy and xenophobia. The liberal media didnt interrupt progression toward racial harmony. Remove rachel maddow from the equation and we still have racial turmoil

This isn't a debate, white supremacist are attacking blacks and chanting die bigger. Keep thinking this shit doesn't apply to us

Their saying fuck everyone and ready to kill other white ppl. Why jump in the middle of that shit. Let them cook and kill each other.

If I'm the city government I'd want all the BLM, Antifa, and Anarchists you could get to fight with the white supremacists. Because the target of the white supremacists in this case is the city government. If I'm the city government their best course of action is to let that shit rock and be safe in the confusion.

ever see a karate movie where it's a group against one....but they don't rush him or flood him.....they go one at a time a get beat...

yea...this is that

Four Minority House Caucus Groups Ask Trump To Fire Bannon, Miller and Gorka

The leaders of four minority House caucus groups have written a letter to President Donald Trump calling for the removal of White House staff aides Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller and Sebastian Gorka.

The heads of the black, Hispanic, Asian and progressive caucuses are calling in the letter for the firings of the Trump administration officials in the wake of a violent, racist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. The letter asserts their continuing presence in the White House is emboldening a resurgent white supremacist movement in America.

“Americans deserve to know that white nationalists, white supremacists, and neo-Nazis are not in a position to influence U.S. policy,” says the letter dated Monday. “In this time of tumult in our country, Americans deserve a leader that will bring us all together and denounce those who seek to tear us apart.”
