He can't replace any of the aforementioned until his contributions to hip hop matches or surpasses any of the 4.

Quoted for emphasis. As talented as he is, he hasn't impacted the culture that much.

Out of the new cats, he definitely has a great chance to get himself there though.

Just copped that boosie fade...

Equal agreement in the shop that gkmc was goat but this tpap is trash.

Equal agreement that he can be a legend but he can't replace anyone cause he ain't put in the time yet.

Most likely to replace Nas not big.

Niggas want to know who exactly said this nigga better than big. Lol. Thought it was me. Smh.

Some nigga started going in on nas' various L's. Then it switched to playoff talk.

Just realized I hate Kendrick because of the ic.

Sounds to me that you needed a reason to hate Kendrick.

No. Niggas prop him up too much around here. Like he's changing/saving the game or some shit. I just don't see it. And even tho tpap didn't deliver on the promise of "control" and is already forgotten ic niggas call it classic.

I like Kendrick so it doesn't bother me. People tend to be bothered by that when they dislike/hate that artist.

It just seems like when Jordan retired and everyone was in a rush to find the next one to take his place. There hasn't really been anyone to approach the level reached by artists of the 90s so every time we see someone with a little promise, they get elevated. All that does is set the person up for failure though. Remember when Wale said he was putting out a Reasonable Doubt type album?? Smh

Kendrick definitely has potential and he has classic projects, so he is definitely top 10/GOAT calibre in my opinion. However, I won't be quick to crown him with that status only because of today's music business and how it can sabotage the music as a whole. There was once a time when I thought that Lupe would supplant the current GOAT imo, Nasir Jones, but then Atlantic records inserted their fuckery and the rest was history. See how Kendrick maneuvers through the business.

I feel you it seems like niggas in day to day life aint fucking with with tpab but internet niggas are annointing it. Kendrick my nigga but he aint on the same planet as Nasir. Dot is lyrical but Nasir is lyrical and has the wisdom to match. I say that to say Nasir the goat numeral uno that nigga spot is solidified.

Nasir spits collegiate level shit, like literally raps about shit I learned in college. Dot on Tpab is trying to drop knowledge and has facts wrong in some cases ie not prononcing xhosa remotely close on blacker the berry. He is trying to hard to drop knowledge and doesnt know wtf he talking about or saying shit niggas have already said more articulatly if thats a word. When i listen to tpab i feel like ive heard all the songs before by 90's cali artist but their versions were better.

That's not the stretch. Big had only 2 albums - you guys don't remember, but Life After Death has been widely recognized as disappointment when it first came out. To Pimp a Butterfly is already heralded one of the best albums released this year and it's status is still rising. Kendrick definitely has potential to be one of the greatest,

Classic albums change the trajectory of a culture. Classic albums capture a moment or event in time to perfection. Classic albums inspire and force others to bite.

Classic albums are crafted by exceptional artists be it via the medium of intellect, skill or charisma.

Sorry folks Kendrick is not that and none of his music has fulfilled any of the above.

Having been around Hip Hop Music for some time Kendrick hasn't produced any overly profound material. The only people that would and could say he has are people new to Hip Hop or have ignored Hip Hop's intellectual and socio-political Music. Kendrick hasn't set himself apart from any of the listed artists.

Stop over rating today's Hip Hop artists because, just to be down.

Shit like this is why artist longevity has declined over the years.

Labelling artist GOAT off of one album and a radio freestyle or some shit.

Just attracts negativity.

I avoid majority of threads like this due to the fact I'm 28 y/o, I ain't gunna be actin like a groupie for no other grown ass man....

Great point. In order to anoint one, you have to discredit another.

I don't think you young guys understand the feeling and energy that was behind biggie. Biggie had commercial appeal, street appeal, artistic appeal. His rhymes were funny his word play sharp, they could be dark or violent he could be complex without overdoing it and his voice sounded like no other

Kendrick is no place close to biggie status and that black album was pretentious not classic at all. Kendrick seems like a super rapper to this generation because we've been dumbed down by the previous generation 2000-2007 was a dark age

its hard to compare Kendrick to Biggie because its 2 dif lanes. both are great. TPAB is classic though. On first listen my thoughts were , there are no real hip hop beats on this lp.(meant as a ngeative)..but after a lot more plays my thoughts were not a lot of real hip hop beats meant as a positive!!

I mean when you listen to radio every hip hop song is produced by the same 4-5 guys. Starts to all sound same. so TPAB sounds so refreshing..and the more I listened to the lyrics started to understand what he is talking about..it becomes even more awesome. Classic without a doubt

I respect your opinion. However, you cannot measure greatness against mediocrity. I don't get the point of labeling something classic, ground breaking, or refreshing when it's competition is Young Thug, Migos or whatever the latest radio trash being played is.

Wouldn't tpab be better compared to Black on Both sides, when things fall apart or fear of black planet? I mean hell Bilal helped on this album and if, you have been listening to albums like airtights revenge or A love surreal this sound is quite common. Mos def's ecstatic tests the same sonic boundaries and has the same overall message of Black pride, unity etc. Same with Robert Glaspers contributions (Black Radio) ijs.

I am failing to see what differentiates this effort aside from comparing to very obvious inferior offerings.
