However i think the BIGGER issue is players not understanding A) your not as good as your think regardless of if you are mr basketball in your state or region every top D1 player has that your not as good as your think....and then B) it does not matter how many years you stay its about consistently improving yourself on the things that are going to get you on an nba team. I think especally when it comes to big men these niggas are NOT working hard enough to elevate their game like kemba did last summer. Niggas dicking around in theese summer leagues flexing and dunking on niggas they know they can beat. But niggas need to be hitting the gym 3 times as hard as they were...niggas need to find an NBA mentor whos in the league or retired and work out with them to improve so they can raise their stock. If more niggas did this we woudln't have to outsource nba jobs to Europe and africa.
Great great points. You hit the nail on the head. The overarching problem is that the product sucks. And the product does not want to get better because the system rewards this sucking.
I think its because there is no solid metric system to analyze players.
For example, in high school, baseball players go through a ridiculous amount of saber metric scouting. There is literally no doubt what a professional baseball player should look like.
In high school, football players know exactly what 40 they need, what bench they need and what agility they need to get to D-1. State champions don't even make it into D-1 sometimes because the competition ALL OVER THE COUNTRY is just that deep. Competition breeds better talent. Better statistics forces players to work on flaws.
In high school, basketball players just have to drop points and be a certain height. So what if he has no mid range jumper. So what if he can't score in the low post. His stats say he averaged a double double and he can hop out the gym. "That nigga's nice son"
There is no REAL rigorious system that critiques players and makes them get better. You should not be allowed to call yourself a PF yet you struggle to average 10 boards a game and have no real low post game. When I come to the CS, I should be able to say, "yo ya boy is a 27% jump shooter...he sucks...and he gives up 15 pts per game to his position and the opponent scores 60% of the time from his zone when they are in a 2-3." If you don't have stats like that, you will forever have weak talent sneaking through the NBA.
Demand more. Get more.
