As nice as that song is..which highlighted the Range Rover 4.6>>>4.0 craze, it's full of irony considering most of the things he bragged about pioneering he really didn't.

Being a good mix of jiggy era bangers mixed in with street lyricism (pop enough for white people to like, hardcore enough to get play in the streets). Never did too much of both and has only had his street card pulled by a one dimensional ass nigga (50).

Always having an ear for beats.

That's obvious...because he took Biggie's blueprint of course. But that's not really an "it" factor.

dame already has success with a major before jay...

dame wud have found his way, he was young and had many niggas ready to fuck with him....

towards the end he ruined his own reputation so he's blackballed himself for the sake of jay z,

Well he did start the whole hustler rap thing. Meaning when RD came out he gave a whole different prospective of the drug game. Yea before , rappers did rap about drugs but not necessarily from that prospective

Complex lyrics and higher degree of believability than a lot his peers

Every time he said something he had either done it or was doing it.

Reasonable Doubt and OB4CL were the soundtracks for dealing.

Sorry but Scarface started the whole hustler rap thing..from the stories of paranoia, trying to get out the game and suicidal thoughts came from Brad Jordan himself so come again..what Jay rapped about wasn't any different. The only thing Jay had on 'Face was the high level of detail in his raps..other than that nope.

Pure Hip-Hop talent, Jay-z came out during that 90s golden era of Hip-Hop where talent and skill on the mic actually matter compared to today. Plus he seem to be able to rap on any track, no matter what the subject matter was.

Jay also got that flow and voice that makes him stand out, whenever he comes on a track you automatically know it's him.
