It's funny in that last part you mentioned that because besides his lyrics, which I've keep mentioning in the opening page WHAT ELSE could it be nobody really can't come up with anything. And LOL @ you mentioning biting and mimicking having no bearing on being charismatic..good point considering Jay has been doing major biting throughout his career. That's exactly the point I've been trying to make in this thread.

Plus....the Jay-Z in the interviews isn't nothing like it is on his record..a lot of people don't realize that. People with true charisma will carry themselves the same way every time no matter what. Russell Simmons mentioned about Slick Rick on a documentary that he was cocky and never was afraid to let anyone know it..he always carried himself like that in interviews and record. LL was cocky, so was Run DMC and carried on the same persona in interviews and their records. If you wanna know currently, Diddy..he carries himself the same way, so does Ludacris and T.I. as well.

You are absolutely correct..that and the death of Big and Tupac. That's Jay's "it" factor. Well put and concrete truth..people don't wanna hear that though because it'll hurt a few feelings.

Biggie, he's described as being somewhat quiet and a lil shy by Bone Thugs, Puffy and even Jay himself so he's also different than his uber confident gangsta music persona. Em has a different persona off record too. Noone is denying that Big and Tupacs death helped to play a part in his success but I wouldn't say thats his sole it factor, they say that for alot of rappers though like Emenim, Lil Wayne (cashmoney), DMX, 50 Cent, people say that none of those artist would have shined if Tupac and Biggie were alive and think of how influential they are. And Jay is actually described as a quiet observant cocky dude off record and we've all know people like that, but being loud and boistorous isn't the only way to project charisma, people like Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, and Obama are described as awkward and they come off as low key but they also have a cocky heir about themeselves. I mean I have a differing opinion from you that i backed up with references of other "charismatic"/influential" celebrities with similar personality traits to Jay so im not being a stan or obsessed or whatever dismissive term people on forums seem to throw around these days.

.....................................

Dame and all his real competition except Nas dying (Big and Big Pun).....Jay is nice don't get me wrong but combined with his talent, he caught a few breaks for various reasons.
