False. He was hip hop from around the time of the robbery and sex case he was already huge but he survived them shots and went to prison.beefed with big and signed to death row.

.like i said it was all snoop pac and big the world of hip hop at that time til he died..Then Nas switched his style and became mega popular,Fugees at the time were globablly popular like crazy insanley popstart populars..Jay Z was a res[ected new cat in the game, the Wu tang was a movment with side crews that had side crews,by late 98 Jay became the Jay Z of today and the south was started to come out on top with Timbaland,Missy,No Limit,Cash money took em too a new level the changed the whole style of dress for cats down south and influenced peoples slang and videos..DMX then Ja Rule had a short run on top..the 50 came along and took it back to the streets for about two minutes, then some more south and regional movements(hyphy, crunk, snap) bs..all been southern dominated IMO since 99 even..Cats acting like this is new south been shitting on the game for more than 10 years...

Pac was popular but not like he was after he died I never heard anyone say Pac was the GOAT before 9-13-96. But with that said Pac got major love back then.

Cats forget about Marley Marl first real superproducer slash label owner slash crew maker..he started that branding a label(Cold Chillin) like a crew shit(Juice Crew ) and had compilations that preceeded The Chronic and Ruff Ryders he had In Control Vol1. and 2...Marley started the mogul template even more than fucking Russell...people copy that Juice Crew formula more than the Def Jam formula..

pac was around back in 92/93 but it was mostly singles and shit...i really started fuckin with pac when he came out with pour out a lil liqour and pain in 94 and the thug life album....really pac blew mainstream wise in 95 with me against the world and became an official superstar you either loved or hate back in late 95 once he got out of prison and dropped california love...the biggest rappers in the mid 90's tho was snoop and method man before that east coast and west coast shit popped off

From an northeast perspective I remember not fucking with the vast majority of music that wasnt from the big east.
If you think its bad now,the snobbery was in full BLAST 15 years ago, especially after new york aint have no sellers for a hot ass minute. Then Nas,Black Moon,Wu broke through a bit and we really started paying attention again and shit talking..All of a sudden that "gangbanging shit aint real, they lying"..lol.."keep it real, son" that whole phrase I shit you not i think started by us looking down on west coast rap..

"I dont listen to down south/west coast music,son"...You used to hear that shit EVERY FUCKING DAY,BRO..Literally..outsiders dont understand how bad it used to be.That shit aint stop til Jeezy kid..not even with Cash Money.Jeezy is the one who made us but our guards down when he heard a southern drawl...not Cash Money, not Wayne but Jeezy..Since up until 06,you heard cats dismissing almost everything that wasnt from the east.

Southern rap got no burn up here other than scarface, yeah you heard of ugk and eightball and mjg if you read the source and rap pages (no xxl) and watched the late night shows on the box or public access(remember ralph mcdaniels) The late night mix shows didnt fuck with non east coast shit and used to openley diss other regions..Red Alert on kiss fm??Remember dat..lol..

The west?NWA was respected but not idolized,Snoop was a fucking role model for about 2 or 3 years as well as Pac but thats about it.We knocked our shit even through the drought,we had Gangstarr,KRS,Fat Joe,etc,Lords of the underground...

Was Big L popular before he passed?

Nigga he aint popular now..lmao..Nope.People used to crack on that Most Valuable POET on the MIC song he had..He wasnt revered for shit,he was seen as one of them post Biggie biters that flooded that summer of 95... thats why I always laugh people bring him up as a goat contender. We used to clown on his ass and that cd didnt move units for shit..

Things I dont miss from 91-early 94(when Big started making waves and changed the game permantley)...the boom stiggity gimmick started by Das EFX maaad people started doing that shit at one point even Kool G rap did that shit at one point wtf I was like nine and disgusted with the nugga.

The bootleg pissy hall way project video..with carharrt appearal gooses 40s and big black leather boots no bitches, hoopties and crews infront of bodegas type videos..that shit was corny as fuck to me...lol..I remember prefering west coast videos cuz of the bitches booty shaking and the scenery..Man thank god for big..he bought back the flashy nugga shit. The big boy jewls and cars, and champagne and women and good life.

*There was rappers rhyming about that shit since always, for your youngstas ..lol..big didnt start the flashy negroe rhyme thing..check sugar hill since fucking inception...Big brought it back cuz the east was on some grime rhyme shit and the west was loc'd out...//thank god for big,man..

Camron was a good spitta with a nice buzz on the streets cuz of a song with DMX and Mase who extremley popular..X was the king of 98 but Jay was on his heels and Mase was chasing Jay..

So that was a HUGE thing..Cam was spitting fire he had maad features especially on Banned from TV.Then at one point we all thought he was Drag-on..lol..they squabbled over that and we finally saw dudes face he dropped a decent cd.

But SDE is Cam,thats the CAM people over 25 want back...not this wanna be alpo character...To sum it up,there was sooo many nice mcs in 98 and so many crazy albums dropping every summer we expected to be good..No one realy expected that we still be talking about the guy...basically...

would wayne/drake/em/ross

be something in the 90's?

You know how paved the way for Drakes faggotry?Nelly..Before him Drake could not have existed..Closest you got to a respected singer in Rap form was R.Kelley and Nate Dogg.No way Drake would have survived in current form before 99.

AND remember what you did outside the both used to matter, kissin men, being c.o.'s,being a jew from canada was not gonna fly.

Look up BOSS and see what happened to her and the Easy E and Dre picture incident..Were suprised Dre even survived that.Street credibility was neccesary back then...

^And from a lyrical stand point..nope..Maybe Drake minus the crooning..Lil Waynes here and there and weirdo bars wasnt gonna fly..Ross ..?Off accent alone he wasnt gonna get in...
