I think you put it perfectly. its like the standards have changed.

i was listening to an old Funk Flex radio show where he was playing 90's joints for like 4 hours straight and he said something i thought kind of hit home. (I know yall hate him but this was good). He was talking about artists and he was saying there was no particular reason to release music and tracks. They were doing it just to do it. They made the music because they liked MCing and making music in general, and if there was a reason it would be that they put the music out there to maybe see the response from the people. I know there were some out there that did it for the money but they at least tried there best and brought something to the table. They really wasn't trying to blow up or be rich and famous. I guess what i'm trying to say is people seemed to love the culture more.

Most of the older artists I have read and heard in interviews were doing two things. Just speaking up about there experiences and at most looking for recognition in their neighborhood. These cats had no clue about what was to follow.

But thats b/c we have ignorant fans who let anybody come in this game without getting boo'd to find another career

Niggas like Future, who is wack btw, making comments like you gotta dumb it down

NO, you dont. Ya shit sound dumbed down cause truthfully you're not that good and rap has basically became a way to get out the hood

Its always been about gettin out the hood but at the same time it was about making good music period. Taking pride in being the best. Niggas like Flocka make ignorant comments like I aint gotta be nice, knowing he been a nerd and was groomed by Gucci, and still get support. Thats why the rap game so lopsided. Too many rappers, too many songs sounding similar

Dem niggas was defintley trynna to get paid and most did flash a bit..some were worse than others.

The thing is it was the STYLE to have a DIFFERENT STYLE,feel me.Everybody wanted to stand out.And you couldnt put out no whack shit and expect to fans to rush cuz of your "brand".You had to be dope and your records had to be dope.

They defintley wanted to sell but the rules and paramaters was you had to be original and you had to be dope. You didnt see a tape flooded with features and every hot producer at the time on joint. Most nuggas didnt switch up drastically over night.

You had cases were they did and those guys always fell off:Kane.

How many mainstream releases this year DONT have a Lil Wayne,Drake,Nicki or Rick Ross verse on it...?You didnt see shit like that back then...

Pretty much the nutshell right there

You didnt see shit like that. Now its monkey see monkey do..Said rapper blew up with said type of beat, now all these nuggas want whoever produced that beat.Smh.

Now you got FANS talking about branding and marketing and units shipped,recouping..like wtf,are you a rapper or a listener, homie?I wanted to ask USMARINE3 one time do your work for Rocnation, breh?

Shit is WWF or reality tv....what happens outside of hip hop gets you more attention than being a dope mc and having an ill record.."Oh such and such rapper bought an energy drink company, dudes knows how to brand himself, that other rapper dont got no business sense ...hes whack"..

LMAO....

I do hate how you went to a party and cats were dancing, having a good time. Once NWA dropped and proclaimed "gangsta's don't boogie" and "all that dancing and shit, listen to the hit" after that, cat's stopped having fun. I do like how they dancing again now but that shit changed the game

Think of it as a job interview

What separates you from the rest of these people who want a job

Ask these rappers that and in their mind they going say this real shit, this real life. Totally not realizing the next artist is going to say the EXACT same thing

so what do you old heads think it will take to get the game back on track? or do you think its on track/lost?

Not gonan be the way it was cuz the way the radio is set up.They dont give a fuck about requests so even if the fans wanna support a certain song/artists they dont gaf..Back then you cud create your own lane in the streets and clubs. Now unless you sell for real indepedant they aint gonna cosign anything that doesnt fit in.

It improved this year but its never gonan be like pre-95.

Another thing is you young bitch ass nuggas stay talking about such and such is whack but then you dont support good artists.Go to the shows and if the cd is that ill purchase retail. With us,if dude was whack he would dissapear after a while.Lil Zane came out in 2K5 and not 99 or whatever he would have a fucking reality TV show and clothing line right now.

You lil nuggas act like bitches...sheep-like."Yo,but dude got a platinum ringtone" ...SO?

true shit

i jus saw a documentary about the business side of hip hop on netflix

they were spotlighting this sista who was like a head a&r and how much music she has to evaluate and they even showed a scene where the head of a smaller label came into her office shoppin his lead act,

she asked him what separates his rapper from the pack and he gave his spiel

then she jus stonewalls him like " do you know everyone comes in my office and says that. what else you got?"

Nah not really, cats had a variety of songs on a album. Dance, political, something for the ladies, comedic shit, straight hip hop. But a whole album, nah.

You know a big difference between then and especially right now? A nigga like Snoop was at like 4 mill a year after Doggystyle came out and still didn't do a feature with every and anyone in the game. I know that Death Row as a whole kinda had that motto but i loved that shit. A nigga gets hot nowadays and all of a sudden every nigga/bitch in the game is a "big fan" and "would love to work with him/her" and the minute said artist fall off popularity wise they don't mention that artist again lol.

I'm not big on beef depending on what type of beef it is but i just love that for example Death Row had their sound and their own look but still fucked with alot of the real cats in the biz, Wu had their own look, own slang and everything, OutKast had their own lil' dungeon thing goin' on, Mobb Deep that their own grimey sound and their own QB thing goin' and so on and so forth. I love that shit.

As big as someone like Dre and RZA were it wasn't like they did beats for every single body in the game at that time, they mostly kept it in-house and that's a good thing. The bad thing is that we possibly missed out on alot of potentially dope collabos but we got instead was niggas who perfected their craft and almost always hit a homerun with tracks they let the public hear.
