Lack of creativity

LMAO but the South has that?

Ok, GG.

Crunk, snap, trap

Regardless of how you feel about the south them niggas was on top for so long because they kept reinventing themselves. They also had a wide variety of sounds with different artist. From Pastor Troy to Pitbull.

New York got stuck in punchline rap. And its taking southern sounding artist, and other regions to get them out. I.E. Asap getting on with Houston swag. Waka filming videos in NY. Jim Jones signing Oakland native Philthy Rich and possibly hiring him as a ghost writer.

New York while being infested with wack rappers like papoose, stench montana, and so on isn't as dead as people thnk. At the end of the day Jay-Z's summer tour with JT will be the hottest hip hop ticket this summer. Same thing if nas goes on tour coast to coast hes selling out the place. And when it comes to albums Jay and Nas both get heavy anticipation (Jay's album already has over 1mill in preorders and he announced it yesterday). And asap and joey badass have larger fanbases than the majority of cities across the country as far as new school rappers.

Yes there is a larger population base in NYC but how many hot new school artists houston got? Miami? Atlanta? Memphis? The west is rising again you can argue they got more and adapted better. But even chi town they got these mouse's and keefs but they can bareley get an album or locally tour.

And Jay z is that dude who works with whoever from wherever and stays current. He been makin songs with various people wherever they from from UGK to TI to Kendrick Lamar, etc. Who cares what nobodies tryin to hold you back think?

As far as the whole rap game goes.....the nigguhs who have the talent and potential aren't using it and the ones who have absolutely no talent are abusing it. 95% of all these nigguhs are either str8 up wack or so average that they don't stand out in comparison to the greats past and present.

Niggas keep blaming 50 but was it him who told niggas to stop bring creative and have a sound of their own? I'm not a 50 warrior by any means but one man can't control a whole coast....I think ny got lazy because they were used to things being so easy for them

Rns here, if its anything 50 made NYC more relevant during his prime years. Plus he put on his own region artists (Banks, Yayo, Mobb Deep, M.O.P) even tho I don't think M.O.B never dropped plus the south was bumping Get Rich Or Die Trying.

NYC was beefing with its own artists before 50. Jay vs Nas, Rocafella vs Ruff Ryder etc. It was in y'all nature to beef & battle each other

I see what you saying, thats why I'm wondering if we're talking about quality or popularity.... Its like cats are so eager and happy to say Ny is done without recognizing the plight of other hip hop hubs.....Whose that big superstar from Oakland, Memphis, Detroit, Chicago, Philly or Houston....lol who went double....I will say I think that the quality has gone down imo, but if we're talking city vs city NY is still on par with any other spot.....Nas, not even sure if he's gold yet, but still manage to sell more than most rappers that released projects within the last year....Nikki not the traditional sounding Ny rapper, but she has had success, and if she is supposed to sound like sum boom bap shyt, then k.dot should sound like snoop and J.cole should rap like Petey Pablo

Back I'm the 1990s, New York had lyricism monopolized. That was their identity. Big, Nas, and Wu ran with that and had success. In the late 90s, you had the lox, mase, cam, black rob, dmx, and others doing the New York style gangsta mafioso shit. That also worked because it was their identity and no one else was doing it. New York doesn't have a hip hop identity anymore. Beefing doesn't mean anything bad, Hell, niggas in New York were beefing with each other in the 1990s and still sold records. Unity ain't got nothing to do with it. It's all about identity.

New York rappers playing monkey see monkey do instead of being themselves is what killed it. Nothing more annoying than seeing these borough niggas out of their element over trap beats. I even stopped making beats with intention to sell because it's really difficult to find any rapper out here who isn't a clone of what's popping on FM radio and is truly doing them on the mic. Shit's disgusting.

Let's listen to some of your beats.
