if Wayne were to drop some shit like today alot of his "new" fans would be like "We've never heard Wayne do that before"

Rick Ross immediately comes to mind. Not that i didn't like him when he first dropped hustlin but, the industry was changing around the time he came in and I just didn't see anything that set him apart from anyone else out at the time. But he's carved out a nice career for himself. Can't turn on the radio without hearing his songs

Most longevity-Soulja Boy

Lack of longevity-The whole Houston movement (Slim Thug, Chamillionaire, Paul Wall, Mike Jones)

When Cham first came out I thought he was gonna be a southern legend idk wat happened to dude

Cham's first album, I still listen to Sound of Revenge...he's got some great songs on that album Rain, Picture Perfect, Think I'm Crazy, Void In My Life...that album is severaly underrated

T.Pain lasted longer than expected

Good post.

After JayZ's "Death of Autotune" I thought T-Pain was finished.

I thought SunNY would get more buzz.
I was surprised at Mike Jones fall off after the success of his debut

The Hyphy movement was short-lived.

The Maino hype disapeared after "Hi Hater"

My boy Ray Cash dissapeared after his joint with Bun B.

There is no way possible that Too Short has 16 retail albums when he raps like Dr Suess

Ying Yang
twins vanished after their biggest single.

Its soooo many examples but it depends on how deep your knowledge is and your HipHop I.Q., I mean how many students of the culture know that Bust Rhymes came out in 1991 and in 2011 he's on a double-platinum Chris Brown single?\

The game dont stop.

I agree

after what cham did underground wise....Sound of Revenge was watered down to me, an his ear for beats was not very good. Then the he put out Ultimate Loss (Victory) and blamed the album on the label....I used to really fuck with cham, but he miss me with the whole telling the world he wasn't gonna curse or say nigga anymore. And it's not because Cham chose not to do those things, because he barely cursed anyway. It's because he felt a need to publically come out and say it. It's like he was looking for a pat on the back or something. He should have just done it and nobody would have even notice. That was around the time where everybody from black folks (oprah, other black activist) and white folks were shittin on everything hiphop. Then the album wasn't that good either so that didnt help his cause lol....Also he said Walmart said he had to tone it down or they wouldnt sell it in stores... Really nigga?? They Already have edited cd's anyway, the whole album was edited no matter where you bought it at lol.....that shit was just lame to me. Cham turned into everything he spoke out against when he was underground.....

Maino was never going to blow...when you come out with novelty songs like "Hi Hater" it kind of pigeon holes you...and yeah Busta still being around is rare in rap, hell it's rare in ANY GENRE for an artist to be around 20 years...

Rappers with the lack of longevity that surprised me were:

Ja Rule 50 ended this niggas career SMH

Nelly He was selling mad records

Lauryn Hill her career ended way to short

DMX is a great rapper nigga just couldn't stay outta trouble.

50 Cent- After GRODT I was an instant fan this nigga fell the fuck off and doesn't even care about making music, just likes talking shit on blogs and interviews and starting random beefs

Twista- He was so talented for rapping fast and his 1st album sold well I actually bought it, but he just fell off after that and only does some remixes.

Rappers that surprise me with Longevity:

Lil Wayne- After The Carter 2 everything he puts out is trash or just avg. I don't know why so many people still be requesting his songs.

Em- I never really felt his music was that good subject wise, only had 2 good albums but he's the greatest selling rapper of all time.

Rick Ross- I didn't think a rapper from the South would be as good as Ross is, he makes good music and sells well. T.I getting locked up and Jeezy falling off helped his career

Luda and Busta Rhymes- They both anit really talked about but they always be on niggas albums and killing most of there remix tracks
