some bible verses state this, like it says divorce is only acceptable due to being unfaithful, geuss other than that its "for better or worse"

Lol at taking scriptures literally

These churches don't refer to actual churches but beliefs (Jewish, Christian, Islamic, etc. And the various sects therein)

Whenever the bible referred to the church it was in reference to the religion not a building

I wasnt speaking of a building in particular, but with all the different denominations and leaders/pastors and so forth. And how in the hell can you not take the Bible literally? What position are you in to say what is literal and what is not.

You can't because the language and the meaning of the words have changed over time

If you take it literally you distort the meaning

And who the hell am I?

Nigga who the the hell are you?

Good answer and I'll see yall @ the Fish Fry!

i just think imma different kinda person in the way i think... i don't do anything for rewards or punishments in an afterlife..

i do what i do to improve my quality of life while i'm here...

the reason i stopped going to church when i stopped was because i felt it wasn't doing anythign for me inside...i was just sitting there ang going through the motions for show...and i felt it was disrespectful to sit there knowing damn well iwasn't feeling anything

and the reason i started going again is because i felt it was time in my life to start learning more.. i wanted to build a family, and i felt spiritual growth was essential for that.. and i got that..

reason why i'm so happy in church is becaue its giving me what i wanted...

i have very little interest in the afterlife..

curiosity?? yes.. but does my impression of the afterlife determine my actions now... not at all...

infact that was my biggest issue with church when i stopped going.. i felt that if people were just going to church and trying to be good christians in fear of going to hell... then they're really not good christians.. they're just cowards....

i came back because i wanted help in becoming a better person, and to feel adequate prepared to be a strong father and husband..i wanted to build my family on that foundation..and lieki said i'm getting that..

Aight so basically ur saying ur Salvation thru Christ has nothin to do with goin to Church whatsoever but to improve ur Life as a person and husband? Im lost on that one bruh. Why be a Christian at all if not to Achieve everlasting LIFE as Christ has promised those who follow him. Dont get me wrong glad you want to be a better person and all but your reasoning for going back seems more Worldly than a Spritual one. Which seems opposite of the whole reason for being there in the first place.

Not to knock ur church or nothin but in Revelations its says when Jesus' returns to this world he will only be happy with 7 churches in the entire world, because those 7 will be the only ones who truely taught what he wanted. My question to you is what are the odds that you go to one of the 7?

The seven churches are

(1) Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7) - the church that had forsaken its first love (2:4).

(2) Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11) - the church that would suffer persecution (2:10).

(3) Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17) - the church that needed to repent (2:16).

(4) Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29) - the church that had a false prophetess (2:20).

(5) Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6) - the church that had fallen asleep (3:2).

(6) Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13) - the church that had endured patiently (3:10).

(7) Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22) - the church with the lukewarm faith (3:16).

so what are you talkin bout that these are he church that taught what God wanted?.. No God is tryin to get these churches to change there ways.

salvation is pretty much a gift for being faithful and true, everlasting life is also jsut a reward to being faithful and true.....it's greatly appriciated however not my motivation for being a christian..

my motivation for being a christian is to allow God into my life and have him work through me...and the more that happens the more i see changes in my life, and the more i feel God is pleased with me,

these things are achieved i feel by learning and studying god's word, and digging a little deeper to really try our best to understand our purpose in life....it's all about our life here on earth...we were created for our life here on earth, we werne't created just to live eternally one we leave, we were palced here for a purpose, and it should be in all of our best interests to serve that purpose while here on earth.....

I feel the reason I see these changes aren't because of my deeds alone, i feel these things because I feel that I am in God's favor to lead my life this way... I see change because I am making strides to lead my life in the way God would have me to lead it...my personal salvation is achieved by living in God's favor, not by my deeds alone....my desire to be a good husband and father I feel is God working through me....giving me an oppertunity to show others how good God is...

it's that testimony that may inspire others, which I feel is my purpose, and it is my goal to achieve it

good man..

But its like ur sayin

" i dont work to get paid, i work because i want my boss to be pleased with my performance"

now i understand that ur not being a christian just cause u tryin 2 get the "ultimate prize"

but whats the point of doing good when u will still go 2 hell anyway? (not sayin that ur going to hell)
