What do you think of the Rooney Rule. Does it help blacks or make them look dumb?

Rooney Rule is bad practice, but let's not make it seem like a lot of minorities who have been interested in head coaching positions have been passed over by subpar or below average white candidates due to name recognition alone or being passed along by another successful coach. So it's not "reverse racism" like some of you may believe, and like Gambino said, Al Davis and the AFL collectively did more for minorities in football than Rooney did. And interviewing =/= he'll get the job b/c he's black. If that's so, then Leslie Frazier and Perry Fewell would have gotten jobs, but guess what? They were turned down for the coach the team president and owner really wanted. Thus, it's not racist. It's just bad practice.

A few scrubs? He picks horrible coaches habitually only to fire them. It is a well known fact that the raider head coaching position is a revolving door. Hired then fired. It's a running joke that when he hires a coach, they call him the next ex-coach. Surely you can't deny that!

matt alias

but anyway, no more so than a lot of other teams that have new coaches every 2 years. id say about 2/3 of the teams go thru the same shit. people like to clown Al. hes clownable because hes old and a lot of people are mad that when the raiders were good, they rub peoples faces in it. the problem isnt who he hires, its the fact that he makes them run his own outdated schemes.

so lets see... john madden was horrible
tom flores was horrible because he only won 2 superbowls
art shell was a horrible coach (the 1st time)
mike shannahan is a scrub
jon gruden is a super scrub

then after that, its kinda fell off, but ill add lane kiffin to the list once he wins a national championship at USC... he got fired for being a liar scumbag, not for his coaching abilitiy

im just sayin, learn football

So you hand picked a few coaches to support your point and that's how you want to construct your argument?

Point blank, is the raider head coaching position a revolving door yes or no?

I personally don't have anything against al davis, I just think the game has passed him by.

And I will agree that people like to clown on him because of his age!

no its not a revolving door. tom cable is going to enter his 3rd year for the Raiders and should be here a few more. its no more revolving than any other team in the league, save fo ra few teams. go check with the seahawks or the bills or the lions or the browns.. jets, niners, dolphins, etc etc etc who go thru as many coaches as oakland. its not just the raiders bro

all coaching jobs are revolving door essentially...think about it like this...the NFL has been around for 80 nearly 90 years...now think about the most number of Super Bowls won...the Steelers-6, Cowboys-5...every team has had more bad years than good years so all coaches "fail" more than they succeed

Norv Turner 2004-2005

Art Shell 2006

Lane Kiffin 2007-2008

you can find that with most other teams in the NFL. 2 of those coaches started as interim coaches. i think you need to learn a little bit more about the NFL, outside of what ESPN wants you to think

The Rooney Rule may be unnecessary now, but the reason it was brought into place was because owners insisted on retreading the same and often average white coaches over and over, or getting hotshot college coaches which mostly failed and no, it's not Affirmative Action because you simply have interview the guy, not hire him.

al davis was responsible for making sure minorities were given a chance.

Most teams? So MAJORITY of the teams in the NFL have a coaching history like the Raiders?

Come on!

it shouldnt be about race when youre hiring anyone, all this shit started cause of white people and their dumb ass stereotypes.i think it's unfair to overlook or hire someone based on color.but guess what though if white people think white coaches are better then why do we have a black coach(colts) Jim Caldwell took them to the superbowl?

It shouldnt be about color about experience and drive

The raiders have been through quite a few coaches since entering the league

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Oakland_Raiders_head_coaches

but I wouldn't say it is "stretching" to claim that other teams are in the same boat...just wiki that shit...outside of the recently successful teams, coaches come and go, that's the name of the game

nope, espn says the raiders are the only team with problems.
