The thing and The Fly are the obvious ones that come to mind..not sure if the thing was technically a remake or reimagining or whatever though. Both are amazing

The ring is pretty decent

Let me in is supposedly a good film but I refuse to see it as I love Let the right one in and don't see any point in watching the remake.

And yeah I've heard the blob was really good I think I saw it ages ago, been meaning to rewatch. Those shots you posted look like effects from a recent movie

WOAT was the rec remake, I can't even think of its name it was that pointless

For as bad of reviews as it got, i really liked the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake.

Saw it in theaters when i was 14, scared the shit out of me. Never saw the original till i was older. It was good too though.

Also Rob Zombie's Halloween remake was dope imo. The 2nd one was Eh, but i really liked the first one.

cosign:

the blob

the fly

dawn of the dead

the ring

i kinda liked "the uninvited" but i havent seen the original "tale of two sisters"

homie told me the new evil dead was good

It's one of the best foreign remakes Hollywood has done.im a massive fan of the original but the American version stands up really well by its self.surprised the hell outta me.the use of colours in that film was great.

I thought the carrie remake was pretty good for what it was.

I hated the Halloween remakes.

Or any of the horror movies within the last decade or so where filmmakers decided that these already iconic characters needed humanising so we'll give you an entire backstory in order to do that.

Fuck outta here, I don't need to know where Myers, Krueger, leather face or vorhees came from or who shitted in their cereal when they were kids, these men are all unreasonable monsters at their best, let them do what they do best without trying to force me to think '"yes but there's a reason why he's ended up this way"

I'm with you on that 100% mate. Regarding zombies take on myers he gave him that supposed terrible childhood as a reason for his actions but man I've known people with similar if not worse upbringings who are normal..it didn't explain shit just seemed pointless..laurie in those movies was annoying af too I'd honestly probably give em a rewatch (there were parts of the sequel I quite liked) but I can't deal with her again

I might watch Let Me In one day but ltroi is just goat and I've not long read the book as well, I don't want to go into it biased against it in any way if I do give it a chance.

True story. Halloween and the Platinum Dunes (I.e.: Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, The Hitcher etc.) remakes completely miss the entire point of these IP's to the point of disgust.

You guys already pretty much named the good ones

The Fly

The Blob

The Thing

Dawn of the Dead

I thought The Hills Have Eyes and Last House on the Left weren't bad either. Maybe because Wes Craven was so hands on with them since he still owns those movies unlike A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers from the 70's was also a good one the 3D My Bloody Valentine was decent. I also found the Maniac remake pretty watchable.

Didnt know Maniac was a remake. the one with Elijah wood? i saw that on netflix, that movie was crazy. Love how they do the first person view, shit was creepy.
