Didn't Freddie make some song called "National Anthem"? or some shit like that?

If so then I don't see any credible comparisons with the DMX aka the Divine Master of the Unknown.

Nigga...Have you heard that song?...This is nothin like a DMX in his generation?

I heard it, I even seen the vid on MTV Jams. I'm not saying the song is wack (although I'm not too fond of the hook), but I just don't see it.

You can't pick and choose a savior. It just happens and it's rare. You usually don't know it's happened because you were too busy enjoying the music, taking it for granted until it's gone. But yeah, I concur, this generation of rappers are not quite up to par with the last. Too many old niggas around too. Like Jayz and Nas. No disrespect to them, but they are like Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr.

Look at the mainstream right now. Lil wayne, calls a man daddy that didn't father him. Drake is soft. Eminem with his corny raps and yelling. Young money with their skinny jeans and making music for 16 year old girls. Nicki Minaj is sexy but...Rick Ross has good beats, but lyrics and flow leave something to be desired.

The game is ok for what it is, but needs a little more balance and diversity.

Man I was just tellin my girl this the other night.

That right there kinda sums up this thread tho.

Look, y'all know DMX one of my favs but the truth is if someone like a DMX would come along he would have to appeal to the ladies in some type of way. I've been telling ppl for years that it's really the females that control the hip-hop market. Like 2pac said, niggas follow what the bitches like. DMX had the "it" factor to go along with his hardcore style and rhymes, which benefited him.

Today in this super club driven music culture we live in it would be almost impossible for someone like him to come out and blow up like that with that style. He would have to have club beats or act like these cornball niggas now. That's the problem right there. Niggas can't just be themselves and like what they like musically. Niggas gotta impress females at all times to where they can't even pick their own music to bump.

I thought that maybe Kendrick Lamar would take hiphop in another direction from the current era.

I know he is obviously of a different style than DMX but I mean he talks about some real shit in his songs.

Now that he is signed with Dr. Dre though, I think we are going to see that creative edge "dumbed down" for commercial success or his stuff with Dre will never see the light of day (like Rakim, etc.)

True, Freddie Gibbs would be the perfect rapper to transcend the game from all of the emo watered down BS.

I agree that Kendrick Lamar is helping bring substance to the game in another way

DMX was more than a crackhead though. You act as if he influences other rappers to smoke crack, lmao.

Or is this about X dissin Pac back in like 96?

LOL AGAIN IM NOT TRYNA KNOCK X PAST SHIT BUT ALL IM SAYIN IS WE DONT NEED ANOTHER CRACKHEAD N HIPHOP....TUPAC>>>X

lol

Its over, sadly. Society is too cleaned up and kids rather be a Wayne than a DMX these days. Cause kids think that being on the streets fighting = no real money. and no money=swagless.

Man I was just tellin my girl this the other night. Yeah we definitely need a DMX more than ever. There's NO masculine rappers anymore. Just these young kids wearing clothes too tight talkin bout broads this, gay that, money over ____ we need a rapper that's a MAN, a rapper that was real, something away from the bullshit.

:(

I blame Obama LMAO . Now many black folk want to date inter-racially and live that suburban life. Which contradicts DMX's existence. X thrived in an era where hypermasculine ignant niggas were running shit on the radio. Record Companies will make sure such a grimey movement will never happen again. Most we have is Ross.

Hypermasculine ignant?...X was an animal lover...An admitted drug addict...A nigga who wasn't scared to break down and cry, then come out of the tears and quote scripture...Very articulate...And in his movies, he stayed fuckin white bitches...The pictures niggas paint of the past, I tell ya...

Yeah, Im talking about the OTHER artists that was around back in 98. X easily came in and made noise because the rap climate was popular with similar music to his. Kinda like how J. Cole was able to crossover in the YMCMB era, despite being more lyrical and a lot less feminine. A lot of older people can't tolerate it, but X-kind of rapper isn't desired anymore :(

We more likely to get another KRS or another Socially conscious Ice Cube who relate and humanize with everyday folk before another 100% street based rapper comes through.

Hip hop don't need another gimmick rapper wit average lyrics the novelty would wear off quick just like it did wit x

At this point a new era nasir type rappa wit staying power and a unique concepts/ lyrical ability is needed more than mc's wit limited skills and subject matter. We already gotta deal wit the south ruining the genre wit their trash raps
