Vol2 vs I am

I gave you prophecy on my first joint, and y'all lamed out

Didn't really appreciate it 'til the second one came out

So I stretched the game out, etched (X'ed) your name out

Put Jigga on top, and drop albums non-stop for ya, nigga!

I Am had the potential to be ridiculous, seein as how most of Lost Tapes and some other fire ass shit was posed to be on it. Plus, I think it was posed to be a double l.p. Might have been the first time in rap that bootleggers really fucked some shit up.

It's not bad. But in comparison to his previous two? Nah...

I definitely fuck wit Vol. 2 more.

Both albums were pretty underwhelming upon initial release.

In hindsight, I Am... isn't as bad as I originally remembered. Nas Is Like is one of the best singles he's ever dropped and Undying Love is a supremely underrated example of Nas' storytelling ability.

Undying love is brilliant.

I Am was more well rounded. Meaningful songs, street bangs, club bangers, storytelling, conscience songs songs for the ladies. This was a complete album. Vol1 had bangers, but nothing thought provoking. And he dumb down the lyrics.

I Am... was salvageable compared to Nastradamus. Solid album, same with Vol. 2.

This has been one of my favorite Nas songs since I first heard it:

I was listening to this on my way to work. That third verse is amazing!

More than fifty percent of us

Endin up with holes through the chest

Through the head, through the gut it shows

The future for us young shooters and old killers

Who become rich as dope dealers?

Nothing left for us but hoop dreams and hood tournaments

Thug coaches with subs sittin on the bench; either that or rap

We want the fast way outta this trap

Whether it be 9 to 5 or slangin crack

To my deceased Gods wishin' I could bring you back

But life is a dream and y'all taught me that

What a fucking tribute to two GOATs and the success of hip-hop at that time

I remember everyone knocking vol 2. This thread is the 1st I've heard people say it wasn't that great. Dude moved 5 mil. Imo vol 3 was the weak jay lp

I LIKE BOTH ALBUMS, BUT I WILL SAY THIS...

I AM...HAS HIGHER HIGHS THAN VOL. 2 BUT IT ALSO HAS LOWER LOWS...

VOL. 2 WAS ALWAYS AN ALBUM THAT WAS JUST "COOL" TO ME...

COMPARED TO RD & VOL. 1, I THOUGHT THIS SHIT WAS KIND OF WATERED DOWN...

ON THE FLIPSIDE...IT WAS ONE OF THOSE JOINTS THAT INTRODUCED A NEW GENERATION INTO RAP...

I'm still baffled he didn't release you won't see me tonight as a single

Probably was something on Aaliyah's side that prevented her from being in a video.

Like how Kanye wasn't in the Grammy Family video.
