you dont understand because you cant relate to work and miss the entire point of his work, you're in a different category.

I'm around your age, but you're right, I cannot relate to his work, because I don't have issues as he does and I understand that the "black experience" is more than what he's portraying.

How mature can his audience be if they can't even see what's really being projected in his writing and plays. Things that make you say hmmmm.

Of course coonery is nothing new, but it's still up to Tyler Perry as a grown man that he doesn't have to follow suit. So in essence, it is his fault because he can't think for himself and/or has been conditioned to repeat the same mistakes.

again your missing the point. He is not attempting to cover the black experience and doesnt have to. no director does. I dont see many directors covering the married/committed black experience. which movies do the couple who been together so long that they need a date night go see? as a a woman in her mid 30's, which movies are geared to me. what movies people in their 40's and above can relate to? they all like movies too

How mature can his audience be if they can't even see what's really being projected in his writing and plays. Things that make you say hmmmm.
his movies do not project that. that's what you perceive. intent vs perception. he has nothing to do with your perception because clearly his fan do not perceive it as such. so some of you need to stop putting shit on his work that ain there. your experience is different from the experience of his audience

fault?as for coonery, the class of people that accuse him of such arent in the position to do so. the population of black folks who critique TP nobody give a shit about in the black community as a whole. they are not even the best portion of the community. to be honest.

this fool just said that the portion of the population that critiques TP are not the important to the black community. This fucking fool just said the most criticially minded members of the black community are not important to the black community.

sophisticated is in quotes for a reason because they are ONLY being compared to those who go to hood flicks.

do you not understand the purpose of the quotes. what does HOA have to do with everything? his audience is far more diverse than that small population.

my age puts in me in TP demographic. most of you cant relate to his films therefore do not understand it. his shit is grown folk shits

LoL .. ok got u .

Fuck outta here with this shit.

Tyler Perry = Lil Wayne

(both have lower common deminator product the market to dumbass in ONE specific demographic that they'll buy in bulk and now make them look like they're Gods of their craft)

Spike Lee = Nas

(Both put out timeless, classic material that overall everyone will just respect 10-20 years after it's made.)

lmaooooo

so Spike is losing out chea???

I'm not going to read through this whole topic, but the dumb shit that was said to defend Perry in the first pages was hillarious. To Paraphrase:

People are only bashing Tyler because he's black. Black people always want to bring each other down. Ya'll are just some haters. etc...

Really? So now we're not allowed to say bad movies are bad without trying to bring people down? Nobody gives a fuck about Tyler being black or rich. His movies are just terrible. The term "hater" is one of the most overused and wrongly used words in the history of language. A lot of people love Tyler's work. A lot of people don't. Just because we don't like that garbage doesn't mean we want to see him fail or we're trying to bring him down.

You guys are being unfair. You're trying make him be the representative of all black people and he can't do that.

Uhhh, no. I guarantee you not one person in this topic criticizing Tyler ever wanted him to be some kind of voice of black people. It is his supporters that try to put him on that level. Hell if his supporters didn't do that and didn't trying to make his movies out to be something they aren't, he'd get a lot less criticism. And he's a bitch anyway. When he's on Oprah or some other show and they are boosting him up and telling him how great he is for black people, he soaks that shit up and never objects to being put on a pedestal. But when someone comes out and criticizes him, then that person needs to go to Hell? Come on, so basically this dude feels like only good should be said about him. The people who do that can go on ad infinitum, but the ones who have negative criticism need to shut up.

You guys don't criticize white directors who do the same thing.

What are you talking about? Michael Bay gets shitted on with every movie that he makes because he uses the same tricks in every movie. M Night Shymalan isn't white, but he gets shitted on for reusing the same tactics with every film too. And IMO both of those dudes have more variation in the movies they make than Tyler.

You guys want him to branch out, but why should he? Wes Craven just makes horror movies, you don't complain. You don't say that Tiger should go play hockey instead of golf.

Ok first, LMAO @ the Tiger comparison. I can't believe someone was actually dumb enough to say that.

The Wes Craven comparison is a little better, but it's still kinda stupid. Most people aren't even saying that Tyler should do another genre. If he wants to live on the Black drama/comedy for the rest of his life fine, but at least change it up so that every movie you make isn't basically a retelling of another movie you made. Yeah Wes Craven makes horror movies, but look at the movies he's made: The Hills Have Eyes, The Last House on the Left, The Nightmare on Elm Street Series, The Serpent and the Rainbow, Vampire in Brooklyn (lol). All of those movies are distinctly different. Yeah they are all horror movies, but you can't watch one and then automatically know what will happen in all the others. That's the problem with Tyler's movies. He doesn't just make movies from the same genre. He makes moves from the same 3 or 4 blueprints.

Ya'll are mad because he is just revealing some of the truth in the black community. These characters actually exist.

This is got to be the dumbest one of them all because it shows a blatant lack of understanding of the other side of the argument. The point being made is that most of Tyler's characters are stereotypes. In other words, everyone alread believes that black women are loud and obnoxious. Everyone already believes that all black men have some kinda criminal background. Everyone already believes that black families are inherently dysfuntional. So how he is he revealing any truth when the only thing he does is perpetuate the same wrong and fucked up stereotypes that have been pushed out about us for years. Who give a fuck if he has a woman in his family like Madea? How does that excuse the fact that he's built his empire on an archetype for black women that has been used to denigrate black women for decades. If a white director made a series of movies starring a character like Madea, the NAACP would be protesting every opening. But since Tyler is black, it's ok for him to do that? GTFOH

This guy gets it. It's good to see someone who understands the "tricknology".

oh please. it's just a frickin character. tired of people complaining about Madea when those same muthafukkas was crying in tears with laughter over Sha Nay Nay and Wanda. Jamie Foxx has an oscar so the breasts and leotard didnt stop him.

get over it

re: sterotypes. y'all hypocrites who watch hood flicks til you can recite it backwards need to STFU about stereotypes

Real talk here! The truth is that most of the TP haters don't understand his reasoning for the movies. He gets 'em in to the movie with foolishness, then hits 'em with spirituality and grown people shit that smart stupid people miss. That's right. Smart stupid people. Spike Lee is smart, yet he says some of the stupidest things I've ever heard.
