people feel that because we accept the suspension of disbelief , we should accept deus ex machina
Two complete differently concepts, that are not one in the same. Yes, we can accept that a man can fly, and alien robots from space can talk.
Long as this has been established with reasons and why. But to ask your audience to accept inextricable problems suddenly and abruptly solved with no explanation what soever, characters for no reason given acting out against their established behavior pattern , goes against the basic elements of good storytelling.
Whether it was meant to appeal to children or adults.
So it really is a cop out to say ,”well you believe a robot from space can talk, why can’t believe that a lil white chick can call a tyrannical egomaniac a “Bitch”, and still live to tell about it?” “You believe a robot can “transform”, why can’t you believe Bumblebee can go from being free & driving around in one scene than, suddenly he’s held prisoner in the next? “
So no it's not about looking for Godfather level of acting or directing but a cohesive story plot and a sense of continuity is not to much to ask in a movie regardless of what the premise of the movie is.
Again It depends on the movie. Going into a "Transfomers" films you should know what you are going to get. It's not going to be great acting, it's not going to be a mind blowing story line. The point is giant robots from outer space kicking each other asses with a little military element and a Teenager/College kid and his girl element. That's it. Expecting more is over thinking it in my view. That's the problem with the critics, they are all on Rotten Tomatoes bashing "Moon" like it's the worst movie ever, they gave it a 36% but low and behold if you look at the fan rating it's still at 90%. What is it the fans understood that the critics don't? it's the fact they know what they are getting from this type of film. If I'm seeing "Malcom X" or "The Godfather" of course I'm going to have a higher expectation about acting, story and other aspects. But this is not that type of film. This is what some would call "Mindless" fun, it's more about the visuals and effects than the actual story line. Even the cartoon for Transformers didn't have no great story lines, it's was mostly about the autobots fighting the decepticons, that was pretty much it.
