To you old heads lets be real: there's a new golden age of rap that is developing right now.

Only thing I can take from that OP is that this generation has a lot of psychological problems.

And oh yeah, Raekwon going gold and eventually platinum in 95 with no commercial appeal>>>>>>>>>>>Nicki Minaj breaking her neck for the Lady Gaga crowd and barely going gold.

Dude i would like to think you dont take the nonsense and complainin on here seriously. This site is opposite world where good is bad. These just discussions for entertainment, a little discursion from reality. It always been plenty of music to listen too. Everybody knows that.

I think these days, everything is at your disposal. This age is truly what you make it. You can find what you want via the internet. We used to have no choice, and have to buy what was in the record store, or watch what was on BET or MTV. There's a lot of good music out here if you look. I got a ipod jack in the car, so that's all I listen to, I don't even know what's on the radio right now, there's a ton of good shit, you just gotta search a little.

Not sure of when and where you came up. When I was coming up we went to house parties, clubs, block parties and the DJ's would play all the new stuff, underground stuff, unreleased stuff, remixes etc etc. When I was coming up you really had to be a part of Hip Hop by getting out traveling and being involved. If, you weren't then yes you were just a Hip Hop bystander who got your Hip Hop experience through second and third hand outlets.

Hip Hop has always been whatever the Hip Hopper made of it.

You could line up every club DJ in my city as well as yours, there still won't be as much variety as there is now. There's an abundance of bullshit, but there's also a hell of a lot of quality. 10 nigga's closet full of records and tapes can't stand up to a google search.

If you consider the flavor of blue berry just packaged in different color boxes variety then so be it.

So Gucci mane, and Lupe fiasco are the same flavor in different boxes? Tyler the creator and Big Krit got the same sound too? C'mon B.

Obviously not. But Biz Markie, BDK, Kool G rap, KRS One and Rakim didn't sound the same either. So, clearly you missed the point. There isn't more variety now then there was let's 15-20 years ago even.

You said there's less variety. When the sheer number of rappers says that there's much more. You say there's less variety than 15-20 years ago when hip hop has only been around for just over 30. Your logic is so flawed because you one of them older niggas that's stuck in the 80s knockin every single thing that didn't last into the new era. While I agree shit ain't the same and a lot of this shit is corny, when you talk about variety and 20 years ago, vs how much is out there now. The sheer number of rappers and producers, coupled with the expolsion of hip hip into every culture, it's impossible not to have more variety. What you want to say is niggas ain't as thoro, and I wholeheartedly agree. But as far as variety goes. I think you've missed your own point, buddy.

Was bout to come here to no-sign you cause there can only be one golden age, but since you called it the platinum age, I do somewhat agree.

But where you say there is more diversity, I disagree, because all those levels of rappers you talked about besides maybe the backpackers all rap about the same shit...

These days everybody strives to be so different in all the same ways, so you end up with the same regurgitated shit with different labels on it.

Its just like the fact that all info comes from wikipedia these days so no matter how much research you do, everybody is pulling from the same contriver sources. There is no originality or individuality these days, its just different shades of the sames color.

Thats why you can have Mac Miller, Chief Keef, Kendrick and Drake all talking about killing people (although it may be figuratively), doing drugs and fucking bitches yet for some reason people perceive them differently because of how they look, how "well" they rap it, were they are from, or who they are affiliated with...

The only differences these days are purely cosmetic.

Number of rappers doesn't equal variety if, the majority of them are doing the same thing.

Bottom line is this. Since you seem to be one of these Hip Hop bystanders who feels as though it's his job to call some one old and stuck in sometime warp. I will play your game. You are nothing but an uneducated youngster with no knowledge of whiich came before you.

Drug rap= since (PSK, Ice-T)

Gangster Rap = done (Just ice,NWA)

Fly Rap= done (BDK, Slick rick)

political rap = done (PE, Melle Mel)

Emo rap= done(PM dawn,Mi phi mi)

Commercial rap = done (Young MC, Vanilla ice)

Dance Rap =done (Hammer, Kid and play)

Pro-Black = done (PE, X-Clan)

Weed, Drug rap= done (snoop, redman)

eclectic abstract rap = done (native tounge, Heiro)

Pimp Rap = (too short, Ice-t, BDK)

Street poetry rap = (KRS, Rakim)

Group\ Crew rap = (cold crush,wutang,furious 5)

Excellent post. As I said in another post. Blue berry flavor packaged in different colors is still blueberry.

Variety doesn't mean anything if the music is garbage in all areas. This is the aluminum age if you ask me.

That's just my opinion though. If you hear what's coming out now and like it, more power to you.

Took the words right outta my head. Thank you for tellin this nigga the truth

Theres a little more variety with the roles rappers portray but the quality of music is still lukewarm booty juice. Niggas are just not musician. Hip-hop is forty now. Niggas got to step their creative, song-writing and just plain poetic skills up. The industry dying....

Whats even worse is what the hell are all these tatted up crazy looking mutafuckers gonna expect out their kids when all they can look back and see is fucking bitches, spending money, and getting high or drunk....The next generation arent doing to having anything to look up to.

You say Hip Hop is in its platinum era but it reminds me of that Everybody Hates Chris Androgynous episode era.

While i dont agree that this is another golden era for hiphop like the 90's, i do agree with the t/s that there was all kinds of dope music being released this year. the internet is obviously a gift and a curse. but it does give access to so many artists at the disposal of ones own fingertips.

i mean of course i saw amazing releases from the typical hip hop juggernauts like killer mike with r.a.p. music. krit with live from the underground. alchemist with russian roulette. the wu block collab was on point. im digging big boi's latest effort. z-ro dropped angeldust which was much better than meth. the coup's latest record is memorable. the game dropped a solid album.

but i also got introduced to some people i havent heard of before. like killa kyelon from houston who released a project with mouse. i liked that one. and the quakers which includes one of the members of portishead and its an interesting listen also another guy by the name of sernegheti. he's very lyrical and seems to find tracks that complement him perfectly. death grips who are a experimental group with an industrial edge. all in all this was a great year for hip hop if u took the effort to find the good shit

Almost always been that way with the exception of the 80s maybe.

This Is More Like The Almost Silver/Bronze Age B...As Good As Some Of These New Cats Are They Are Not Surpassing The Cats That Inspired Them Even From A Production Standpoint...Nas Jay Ghost Etc Are Still Better MC's And Putting Better Music Than 99 Percent Of These Cats....The 90's Cats Evolved From The 80's Rappers..These New Dudes Are More Little Brothers (Pun Intended) Than Anything

Knew the old heads was gonna get all defensive and shit, acting like everybody was original in the 90s and there wasn't plenty of garbage hip hop. The music is more accessible than ever and even though you could debate the potential of another golden age, you can't deny that hip hop hasn't vastly improved in the last 5 years.

Lupe Fiasco, Jay Electronica, Kendrick Lamar, Big Krit, J Cole, Wale; these are all artist that wouldn't of gotten any attention in the early 2000s. These are artist that I followed in the underground and was shocked at the attention they began to receive, especially Jay Electronica and K. Dot, I thought that with their styles they would be banished to being completely unknown.
