OMG so much 2 respnd 2 from ths comment.. 1st of all i cld write a book on how wack ur theory iz, but i ain't got tha time right now. So lemme jst pause n say 2 things; One is u got it so wrong bout all these different type niggaz u puttin in2 these catogories.. Rap, Hip-hop whateva u wants 2 call it has it's roots in block partie's, to house partie's, to the club, chillin w ur boyz smokin drinkin pimpin all that/ What that sayz is rap has always been inclusive not exclusive u feel me; It's about or it was bout gettin that new shhh from N.W.A. goin over to ur spot and u and ur friends play it over and over b/c u can't believe what u just heard. U would bump that shhh in ur ride on tha way to a club or bar or house joint and shhh spread like wild-fire/ U didnt have to b a weed smoker, or a skater type, backpacker, rich kid, corn ball, hype ass niga, or soft lotion type niga?? Off topic; u r so damn white you shine when u walk down tha street, i ain't never heard anybody call themselves any of these names, n they weren't n my insanely large vocab until 2day. i mean i heard of tha words n all but i aint heard any1 use em like that especially tryin 2 describe rap music fans?? Back on track.. A true hip-hop fan will pretty much listen to anythng put out 2 c if it's true hip hop to them n not some radio astro-turf type shhh. I mean until Puffy we used a strict code on what gets play and what don't. U had to meet a certain criteria. For instance if u rapped about bein a thug or a gangsta u really had to be that in real life. Niggaz would examine ur shhh n see where u from, what hood u come out of? If u rappin about slangin drugs on tha block we would find out what block, if u was talking about bustin caps or bodyin fools ther would b some chatter about that. Basically we wouldnt let studio gangsters get any air play. 2pac was a thug n a plyer so he could rap abut that shhh. The Beastie Boys weren't so they couldn't rap about that. they rapped what they knew and were sic w/ it so they got play. But then Puffy came along co-opted Biggie and had that hardcore street nigga in some flashy outfit rymen over a smily face jumpin across the screen.. Shhh was craz-e/ No disrespect to B.I.G. he couldnt b made in2 anythng he wasnt thats why his shhh remained tight regardless of p's influance.
Anyway rap and the hip-hop movement was always about not just tha music but also the way u walk, talk dress, act etc. it was always open to any1 who could relate to the struggle or to whatever they were feelin' N it never set out to be chopped up in2 all these catogories of people who have to fit in2 some box of a backpacker to listen to certain rappers. It's about the Mass Appeal like Guru states.
Alrite dis will b much shorter. #2 Dis is not tha "platinum age" of hip hop. Sorry kid. But u don't get to define what generations of people before u n tha people who r presently movin' this music they love. So let's leave it up to them.
Like Jay-z says,
a star like Ringo, roll like ??
Crazy bring ya whole set,
Jay Z in the range, crazy and deranged,
They can't figure them out they like hey is he insane,
Yes sir I'm cut from a different cloth,
My texture is the best fur, of chinchilla.
Been dealing with chain smokers,
But how you think I got the name Hova?
I been realer the game's over,
FALL BACK YOUNG, EVER SINCE THE LABEL SWITCHED OVER
TO "PLATINUM" THE GAMES BEEN A WRAP, One!
So soorrryy Jay switched nigas from gold to platinum in bout 96' or 98' so u missed that age Bro..
I'll wryte more later n let u n on what dis generation is truly-
