Run-DMC got a million just for wearing Adidas in the 80's

Old heads never gave who a chance? This isn't something that you hand down. The older rappers don't own Hip Hop... the old white people behind the desks and the fans have control over it. There's nothing that KRS ONE or Slick Rick could've said to prevent the next generation of rappers from being successful. Jay, Nas, BIG, etc didn't say " ay Rakim! ay KRS! you old niggas need to move out the way. " They just did their thing and didn't make any excuses. A lot of rappers from New York aren't disciplined in the way they handle their careers. That's what happened to New York's Hip Hop scene.

yeah i feel yuh man u got a point rite there.. its just obvious the talent in new york aint as high as it was.. or maybe the bar is just lowered.. but i looik at the 90's n look at today and Biggie, Canibus, Pun, Public enemy, DMX, JAYZ, NAS, CRAIG MACK, RAKIM, MOBB DEEP, WU-TANG, LOX, RUFF RYDERS >>>> FABOLOUS, JOELL ORTIZ, FRENCH MONTANA, PAPOOSE, MAINO, JIM JONES, JUELZ, CAMRON, gunit ... thats just to name a few. hell, even puff daddy SHITS on diddy... im not sayin cats today arent talented becuz they certainly are but its obvious theres a lack of creativity (not just comin from the south). u can say its the record sales but really the last decade is when the albums started being shitty and everyone stopped buying them.. artisit got noone to blame but themselves. they got lazy, stopped loving the craft, n started loving the money more.

i think hiphop is becoming more interesting again lately tho, i think they are actually trying to push themselves now n i been hearin alot of good music.. we need cats like j. cole n nas but do also need gucci mane to come n make us dance.. niggaz just gotta stop followin trends n be creative.

since 2000 the top selling rap album of the year has been by em, outkast, kanye, or luda. Numbers are def declining but its nice to see that the best albums every year still are by an artist that values the power of lyrics. I mean the 2000's have been filled with the soulja boys, lil johns , new boyz, but at the end of the day they only selling ring tones and singles. I mean im glad the feeding people im not hating off that. But at the same time the best album still is the one from a artist that values lyrics over everything. Which disproves this whole lyrical rappers aren't making money b.s.

At least the dumb bitch admitted it is from a rerelease as well. Cuz these Stans would buy the album again. Hell, they would buy the original just so it helps the numbers.

eminem stay killing jay z on the sales tip. he didnt have the promo like jay z had for bp3 and still managed to beat the camel in sales. if i was live nation i cancel that jay z contract and sign eminem. he will make the company more money with less expenses like shawn knowles racks up. unlike jay z eminem can produce and mix his own album. jay z needs kanye to produce an album for him. eminem had a #1 song with no video. jay z only went up to #3 with the help of Rihanna and Kanye West.

650 K>430 K

2 million>1.5 million

Eminem>Jay Z
