The one film that the Black Community needs is

As a black aspiring film maker I must say...it's refreshing to hear you guys say these things...

I whole heartedly agree and it's one of the goals I have...honestly we need a black film in every category..Horror/Action/Drama/Epic/Coming of Age....

Someone needs to get Jay Z, Beyonce, Diddy, Russel...shit Babyface...get them mu fucka's to put up 5mil a piece and get shit started.

Crazy part is that Robert Townsend and Spike were on that shit like 20 years ago, the only difference is, I feel they were TOO "pro-black" and alienated other races from enjoying the films. I truly feel like if you make some genre films where the characters just so happen to be black but the themes are very much universal..you WILL make a profit.

Takers did a really good job at achieving this...and Drumline did as well a few years ago...too bad black people weren't Nick Cannon supporters because he was on his way with his film selections (Love Don't Cost a Thing, Drumline etc)

Hope you make it but that's the major issue with these movies being made. the studio's aren't sure how black folks will react and they know for sure that white folks tend to stay away from all black casted moives regardless of the the genre of movie. that's why studio's try so hard no to have movies branded as "black"movie. It turn all other races away. While black folks just show love and will go see any movie that is entertaining regardless of the race of the cast in the movie. . We know hollywood is all about that dollar. so they wont' even waste time with some of these ideas.

and i know a lot of black folks who fucked with drumline but you need more than just black folks. i really didn't like Takers but they had and half and half cast. I think if they had went full board action instead of trying to keep it PG 13 it would have been better.

I could die happy if they make this film & its as successful as say Troy or 300. Such a shame that Ancient Egypt is the cradle of civilization & it hasn't been depicted on film. Yo something else we need too is a coming of age black film - like American Pie or Superbad but without the gangs and guns tho. Like I understand that Menace and great movies like that represented the 80s but today we've come a long way, and honestly all those movies ended badly. Just a clean positive and yeah maybe comedic approach.

They did, and I think the first few Blade movies were extremely popular weren't they? it can be done...like someone said, the movies need not be so Afro-Centric....if the themes were entirely universal with a black main character, I think it would see success. We just need more talented writers/directors out there.

Completely agree about Takers, I liked it...but they fucked up with casting Chris Brown and not going full bore with the action.

Have you checked out Repo Men? It speaks to some of what people here are saying....you have a black main character(Forest Whitaker) in a universal, action-neofuture genre.

SAD BUT TRUE!! that last eddi murphy movie tower heist fell victim to this. Eddi said that he originally wanted him, chris rock, martin, dave chapelle, keven heart, mike epps, and katt williams. But they gave him some bogus ass excuse(like usual) and they started naming other actors who happened to be white lol. Eddi wanted it to be a comedy version of oceans 11.

they did the same thing with green lantern. He was originally supposed to be black but they made him white shortly after because of what you just said. Then they went back and made them two different lanterns at some point back in the day.
