The serpent's revenge: Woman burns down her own home after she tries to kill snake by dousing it in gas and setting it on fire

By JOSHUA GARDNER

A woman who doused a snake in gasoline and lit it on fire got a rude awakening as the snake slithered away and caused an entire house to burn to the ground. The woman was cleaning her home when she happened on a snake. In a panic, the homeowner threw gasoline on the creature. Randall Baggett of the Bowie County, Texas Sheriff's Office explained what happened next.

'[She] lit the snake on fire,' Deputy Baggett told KSLA. 'Then the snake went into the brush pile and the brush pile caught the home on fire.' Firefighters responded to the fire around 7pm Wednesday. When they arrived to the residence, on Will Smith Road in the Liberty Eylau area of Bowie County, it was already engulfed in flames. A neighboring house was affected as well.

Thanks to the efforts of firefighters, the neighbor's home was only damaged on one side. However, they were unable to contain the first blaze and that home was totally lost. As strange as it sounds, one official said this isn't the first time he's seen an animal contribute to a fire. According to Liberty Eylau Fire Chief David Wesslehoft, the phenomenon isn't totally unheard of. 'It could happen with rabbits and big field mice,' he told KSLA. 'Once they start burning the grass, they get out of their hole, they have been known to catch fire and then take off.' Nonetheless, the fire chief admitted he'd never before seen a snake start a fire.

Meawhile, officials continue to investigate the incident. No word yet on whether charges will be brought against the woman.

Months after an escaped steer was shot and killed in the streets of Baltimore, another freedom-seeking bovine died a hero's death in Germany. The cow, later nicknamed Bavaria, fled a Munich slaughterhouse Tuesday and went on a wild rampage through the city, leading police on a high-speed chase towards Oktoberfest and goring a jogger before finally being put down.

The 28-year-old jogger suffered "massive injuries" after being struck in the back by the 1,200 pound animal. "Luckily her life is not in danger," a police spokesperson told the Local. "She will have to spend some time being treated in the hospital."

The determined bovine wasn't finished with her rampage, though. "The cow then tried to attack another person and was luckily blocked by a police vehicle, which eventually got damaged by the impact," police spokesman Carsten Neubert told NBC News.

Finally, after an hour-long chase, police shot the cow, first with their sidearms, which proved ineffective, and then fatally with a rifle. "Unfortunately there was no other way to stop the cow," the police spokesman told the Local. "We had to stop the danger to the public."

The official police explanation wasn't enough for animal rights activists, who set up a memorial, complete with notes and stuffed animals, at the scene of the cow's death.

"Here died the cow 'Bavaria'," one note read, according to the Local. "She wanted to live and fled the abattoir. She died here under a hail of bullets! Let her henceforth be a symbol for our striving for freedom."

RIP, hero cow.

Cow bolts butcher shop, leads Pocatello police on wild chase

Published December 14, 2014

Associated Press

POCATELLO, Idaho –  A 1,000-pound cow being prepared for slaughter jumped a 6-foot fence and bolted through the streets of Pocatello before police shot and killed it following a lengthy pursuit.

Pocatello Police Chief Scott Marchand tells the Idaho State Journal (http://bit.ly/1DtMaME) that his officers fired two shots at the heifer because it posed a safety risk.

The cow had escaped from Anderson Custom Pack, a meat processing business, on Friday afternoon.

Early in the chase, an officer shot the cow in the head but the wounded animal kept running.

The cow led police and animal control officers on a chase on foot and in vehicles through the city's north side. It rammed an animal control truck and two police cars.

The animal was eventually cornered in a residential backyard about 3 miles away, and was shot and killed by a police officer.

[Owl voice] "Do you like scary movies?"

The Thing. Michael Myers. Pinhead. Jason Voorhees. Owl. What do these menacing characters have in common? The fact that they are mentioned in this blog post, yes—please keep your jokes to yourself—but also the fact that each is a creature filled with the devil's spirit, born to terrorize the innocent and delight in the pain of man. What don't they have in common?

Of course, Owl is real.

According to the New York Daily News, a two-foot-tall owl is haunting a small town outside of Amsterdam, where it, reportedly, "likes to gouge the flesh of its human victims." From the Daily News:

Dubbed the "terror owl," the 2-foot-tall nocturnal raptor especially likes attacking the elderly and the disabled residents at an assisted-living complex in the village.

At least 20 people have been mauled there and some injuries required stitches, spokeswoman Lieselotte de Bruijn said Thursday.

Clearly another thing that sets "terror owl" apart from its horror film associates is that "terror owl" is uninterested in the glamor being a villain affords, foregoing sexy teens and focusing the majority of its terror on the elderly and the disabled. You almost have to admire him, this "terror owl."

One victim, Niels Verkoojen, told Dutch news that his confrontation "was like having a brick laced with nails thrown at your head." A colorful description of a cold, ruthless, and you have to imagine somewhat cute act—exactly what "terror owl" deserves.

According to the Daily News, the town has applied for a permit to catch the endangered "terror owl."

Good luck, my friends.

A 17-year-old girl is recovering after a buck struck her car while she was driving and impaled her jaw bone with its antler.

High school senior Tori Henry needed five-hour surgery after the freak accident in Jonesboro, Arkansas last Wednesday but is expected to leave the hospital today.

The teenager was driving on one of the city's busiest streets when the five-point buck tried to jump over her car - but smashed into the DRIVER'S WINDOW and impaled her face with its antler.

Despite the terrifying experience, Tori stayed surprisingly calm, her mother told KAIT.

'She kept her composure after the deer hit her and drove and parked her car so no one else would get hurt,' her proud mom, Nikki Winn, said.

She was airlifted to The Med in Memphis and was later transferred to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, where she underwent surgery.

The images of her sporting a swollen cheek as she recovers in hospital are a far cry from smiling photos she took just a week before, when she was voted to be part of Homecoming court at Paragould High School.

Still, the teenager has shown her strength and recently enjoyed a hospital visit from Elsa the Snow Queen from Frozen, who lifted her spirits by presenting her with a tiara and gifts, her mother said.

'Tori is the person that is kind to everyone.' she said. 'With her from now on, I'm not sweating the small things. I'm just going to be happy that she is here and hug her every day.' On Facebook she added that, while her daughter is IMPROVING physically, she is still suffering emotionally from the shock. Winn added that her daughter would be going home on Tuesday.
