Went through it once. My initial thoughts
Love the intro, in general i love a good intro; queens gets the money, get down, or a million and one questions.
Vultures to my culture
Exploit the struggle, insult ya
They name dropping 'bout caine copping
But never been a foot soldier
Let's have another look, just get a little closer
Rage against the machine, black Zack de la Rocha
In a cranberry Rossta, inside track on the G rap poster
Best d-boy all I'm missing is a dash
Difference between me and Hova
Numbers on the board is fire, already know about that.
Ballers, I put numbers on the boards
Can't a bitch living say I bought her Michael Kors
Every car driven was decided by the horse
Keep the sticker in the window 'case you wonder what it cost
How could you relate when you ain't never been great?
And rely on rap money to keep food up on your plates, nigga?
I might sell a brick on my birthday
Thirty-six years of doing dirt like it's Earth Day, GAWD
Sweet Serenade is trash. Ross finally had a good verse that related to the song. Suicide was tight. Not feeling TheDream track, why the fuck is he imitating M-a dollar sign? Couldve done without the Who I Am.
The end is strong - Nosetalgia, Pain (still nice after what a year!), and SNITCH
the middle holds this album back from being epic. Solid debut, i want to hear another solo and another Clipse album. I don't know who advised him to bring on Chris Brown, Dream, and my home-girl Kelly for those songs. You only get one chance at a solo debut, he couldve been more nuanced different subject matters; maybe about childhood, Virginia, at least a concept song based on The Wire or him and his brother maybe going back and forth with street life vs god's path. At certain points he just rapping, punchlining over beats, and it works on some tracks but not all. The tracks in the middle dont always fit the dope boy rapping.
