Ant Man was pretty cool despite the production problems with Peyton Reed stepping in at the last minute, but I am excited to see what he does with the sequel working on it from scratch.

The lucky fans who were in attendance at D23 and San Diego Comic Con this past month (more power to you if you were at both) were given the very special treat of an Avengers: Infinity War trailer. It sounded seriously epic and people at home waited anxiously for Marvel to release the trailer online. However, Marvel opted not to do that, with the rest of the world having to rely on second-hand accounts of the footage. While that understandably stinks for all of us left in the dark, it's still a smart move on Marvel's part and it's actually a good thing that they haven't put the trailer online.

Everything about a trailer, from the shots used to the time it is released to the public, is carefully calculated. People who went to school for marketing sit down at a table (a really nice one, I bet) and plan out the absolute most effective spot so that the trailer gets a great reaction. Even if the trailer itself kind of sucks, there's a reason it's dropping when it is. In the case of Avengers: Infinity War, the powers that be seem to have felt that it was too soon to release the trailer to the public. The movie is still a little less than a year away, and it may be too soon to drum up such intense hype with such a long way still to go.

But what about D23 or Comic Con? Those people all got to see it! Well, you have to consider the specific environment of a convention. Releasing a trailer at a Con is a great way to raise awareness/excitement, and that's a really easy thing to do. Everyone there is super pumped to see whatever it is they're there to see. The energy of the room is electric and I'd bet that even if something were bad, people would still lose their minds when they got to see a new trailer because everyone is just so happy to be there and experience it. Reactions out of D23 and San Diego Comic-Con prove this point. So, when Marvel shows the first-ever trailer for Infinity War -- a movie already hyped into oblivion -- people are going to react big time. Then those people go on social media and build more hype so that when a trailer finally does arrive online, people are likely to click that link fast.

One also has to remember that these exclusive Con trailers are made to be exclusive for a reason. James Gunn has said that he and Marvel don't like to release footage premiered at Comic-Con because it doesn't hold up under repeat viewings. In some cases, the visual effects work is still early and unfinished. There's a difference between showing a crowd of excited fans unfinished footage one time than millions of people worldwide dissecting it on repeat. No one has really talked about how the Infinity War footage actually looked, but it's not like people can go back and check. All they remember is Thanos throwing planets around. When Marvel does release a trailer for Infinity War, it will be: A) finished, and; B) likely contain some new footage that no one has seen yet. That sounds a lot better than something that was made for a one-time limited audience.

While plenty of studios release their promotional materials at the same time they debut at Comic-Con (Hello, DC), Marvel is something of an exception. They typically don't release most of their footage from the panels unless it's ready for a mass audience (See: the awesome Thor: Ragnarok trailer). They do this, in part, because something at Comic-Con needs to be just for the people at Comic-Con. It's a reward for buying tickets, waiting hours in line, and wading through huge crowds of people. If you had to sit in a line for almost an entire day, only for everything you waited to see immediately released online, you'd probably be a little pissed. At least Marvel is helping make that experience worthwhile by showing slick Black Panther footage or a trailer that had already built up buzz from the previous week.

True, the Avengers: Infinity War trailer has already leaked online, so you'd figure that Marvel should just release it now that the cat's out the bag. Our own Mike Reyes argues that it should be released right now. Read his take on the matter. But, again, that footage is likely not as good as what they are assembling for the REAL trailer that'll be slapped in front of every movie from November (I'm guessing; that's when Ragnarok drops) to May. The description of what fans have seen from the movie thus far sounds incredible, but that just means that it'll be worth the wait when Marvel deems to finally take pity on all of us poor souls.

That shit right there was like the worst example of writing I've ever seen. I'm not saying Thanos can't lose, but why the hell would Thanos ever challenge a guy with supreme power while not having anything particularly special of his own.

No he's not. Thanos always knows when he's overmatched. That's why he is always going after powerful artifacts.

Netflix Is Poised To Speed Up Its Release Of Marvel Series

With the arrival of The Defenders on Netflix later this month, Marvel has established yet another universe and will be bringing together the major characters within it for a crossover event. This, however, is hardly the major milestone being talked about regarding Marvel Television and its Netflix series.

Marvel and Netflix are cranking out a record number of episodes in the state of New York. Before 2017 comes to an end, a total of 135 episodes of The Defenders, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Punisher will have been filmed this year. It's a move which clearly indicates Marvel's output on Netflix has accelerated by comparison to the original plans.

Originally, Marvel had two titled releasing in a single year. Daredevil's first season arrived in early 2015 followed by Jessica Jones in November of the same year. Then, Daredevil Season 2 would drop in March of 2016 with Luke Cage releasing the following September. Now, in 2017, Iron Fist has already released, The Defenders is on the horizon, and an undated Punisher series is expected before the year closes.

Should the Punisher arrive this year, 2017 will be the first year with three releases from Marvel Television on Netflix, with 2018 set to do the same as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will each release their second seasons.

The question mark, however, is what comes after these titles and their second seasons. With 2017 serving as a finish line for production on each of them, the stage is set for 2018 to unite them once again for another Defenders series or more new characters to come along, similar to the Punisher's introduction, an spawn their own series.

Another season of Daredevil is expected based on the character's success. In fact, the success of each title a direct reflection of how many series are being cranked out at the moment. Might the Marvel Television team ever elect to leave New York City? With the expansion of the cosmic side of the world underway in both The Inhumans and the Cinematic films, could Netflix introduce a character like Nova or launch a Nova Corps series?

At a rate of 135 episodes per year and a clean production slate heading into 2018, anything is possible.

Damn a Nova/Nova Corps netflix series would be pretty cool! Would be one of the few characters/teams that appear in films and tv. I think Nova (Ryder) should be a character in the films though. Hopefully this means we will get a Moon Knight series and maybe a Ghostrider Netflix series. Blade too..

Captain Marvel Details Indicate Mar-Vell And Retro Costume Might Make Appearances

Captain Marvel is starting to come a bit closer into view, and with it, more details about Marvel will approach the character's origin.

Marvel recently revealed that the film will heavily involve the Kree-Skrull war, as well as a 1990's setting. Now sources close to the project (via MCU Exchange) are saying that the project will also include a familiar name, that being Mar-Vell.

It is through Carol's meeting with Mar-Vell that she receives her powers, and those sources say that her film origin will helm closely to the comic version, albeit with some tweaks. In the original origin, one of Mar-Vell's enemies kidnaps Carol, activating a powerful Kree weapon during Mar-Vell's rescue attempt. It changes her DNA and causes her to adopt a Kree-like physiology, turning her into the hero fans know.

Those sources also implied that there will be an earlier version of the costume seen in the concept art, most likely modeled after her time as Ms. Marvel.

How integral Mar-Vell will be to the story remains to be seen, as it is unknown how much of the film is actually an origin story and how much is just her working alongside Nick Fury. At some point, though she seems to be destined for the Quantum Universe, as Marvel has said that serves as a link to Ant-Man's exploration of it.

Only time will tell if this eventually bears out, but if it does it could make for a fantastic tour through Marvel history.

Larson is rumored to debut as Carol Danvers in Avengers: Infinity War, but will then headline her own solo film in 2019. Marvel recently brought on directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, responsible for Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind. Now that directors are in place and the lead star is already hitting the ground running, more casting news should soon follow.

Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming are both in theaters now, and will be followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
