I'm in my second year of CC for my Comp-Science degree. However, I suck in math and I'm doing developmental classes for it. Please wish me luck. Trying my best to make it.

Start crossing your college classes with online courses you check out on your off time

Alright I'll try to talk to my counselor and see. Thanks for the heads up man.

No prob, one thing that wasn't available before I graduated was this. TAKE ADVANTAGE of it! Repetition learning is critical and the easier way of learning.

whats everyone studying? new jobs? whats going on....yall been quiet

Right now I'm studying Linux, have to get out of doing Desktop Support there's no climb in that field, was studying python for a sec. But had to put that on hold for a sec until I get this Jr linux gig

My contract ended at the hospital back in August. Just been chilling working on building my portfolio and work on building my consulting business.

I'm seldom applying for jobs right now due to this project, thinking of a different way of attracting clients, employers, companies, etc. Working towards Web Developer but will look to add ETL, Data Analyst, Graphic Design, and others to my portfolio.

Left HP about 3 months back after getting my ccna, then got a desktop support gig at a small company 5 mins away from my house. really like the company so i havent been studying lately

Also looking at getting into Data Analyst positions. What kind of classes or training are you taking for this field? Where are you looking for this kind of work?

Have IT background, already taken financial modeling courses, statistics course etc. Wish I could land a position on a suitable project so I could take a Six Sigma course, since I know they're big on that title.

I'm currently looking at Data Analyst, Business Analyst. From what I've seen, most firms want some experience with ERP- mainly SAP, BI software, and SQL. Employers seems to have gone away from training and noticing potential, and now want someone who can hit the ground running. Not to mention, all of these contract positions with limited benefits SMH.

Don't you know I've received opportunities from employers who are trying to give me a salary with no health benefits AND ALL inclusive! I've received some trifling numbers before I even got accepted for the position...and they still want to do a technical interview, smh! Those contract positions are really something!

Yea alot of those Data Analyst positions are ALL different. Whats worse is at my job before my previous, the data analyst aspect of it not only was the job description outdated but the technology and tools used for the analysis were just macro enabled spreadsheets and documents..they were REALLY behind there! And Business/Data Analysis has evolved into the ETL, data scrapping, business intelligence realm that many businesses want. The Six Sigma, I don't even know what jobs out there are asking for that anymore, but thats why I'm focusing on creating project/templates so I have my own experiments. I would say start with udemy, udacity, edx, and coursera for their data scientist and data analytics courses.

I'm in South Jersey around the Philly area, so the area of IT is very patchy, spread out to the major city. But there's really more scattered areas all over the country that are more IT job savvy ala Silicon Valley. So I'd stick with a online course site and start making mini projects and create a pp presentation on what you did!

good to hear y'all making moves

i just left a position after 2 1/2 years because they were trying to bs me on salary. 3 months into the new gig, I'm miserable and bored. but i got a 25k pay raise. Old boss called me this am offering me my old job back and will match my current salary.

I'm thinking about taking the offer...and work there again until i pass this CCIE exam

I hear ya, when I started my govt job, I believe the reason they were so inclined to bring me in is because of a rookie mistake that I didn't know until I started researching. I got caught up taking a position that just because it PAID more than my previous, it was based on the position's market value. What I learned was to check the job title and look for similar salaries. Not saying you will get that always but it saves time and prevents you from getting underpaid for doing MORE work.

Yeah, not feeling the current job market at all. Trying to find a career/career path, not a job if you know what I mean. I get calls/emails at least once a week about positions similar to what you're talking about. It would have to be a great opportunity with the perfect company, for me to even entertain some of the things they come up with.

From my experience, most companies are way outdated when it comes to technology. Apparently, it's extremely expensive to upgrade software at that level.

Good look on the course sites. I already mess with coursera and MIT's open courseware site. I'll definitely take a look at the others and see what's up.

I'm not up on the whole pp presentation thing. You use your pp at interviews? Post them on a personal site or something?

Word. These companies ain't loyal, so no need to be loyal to them.

I don't know about the whole matching thing though, I would ask for more bread, more vacation time, signing bonus or something. Can't just match and think I'm going to come running back, especially when you was trying to play me before.
