Well. It's official. I'm taking the ICND1 on Sept 30 which is the last day before the test switches over. Sure not really sure about myself though.

what you unsure of? shoot any questions this way

Getting the hand of static routing. I used that linked in it helped, but I'm trying to be sharp at it.I'm also try to master troubleshooting.

I'm starting to learn different ways of networking, and at this time I will look to start from the basics again (college career services, consulting firms, temp agencies, etc.) because now I have to include a bridge job (2nd job). Real soon they are going to have furloughs in the government again and I will have to start grabbing a few jobs.

Any advice for a dude just starting out in the IT game? I got a couple years of college under my built but didn't have the chance to finish. Figured I could just get some certifications and start that way.

Yep, start reading

Read through the thread. Looks like I'm gonna start from the bottom with the A+ and find a help desk gig. Thing is....I'm not a big study person so I'll have to get into the habit.

for all my network engineers in here...ccna etc...make sure you understand NAT. why to use it, how but most importantly..when NOT to use nat. its a fuckin headache

Man....I have been all over the place the last few weeks. Went to a Big Data Week Hackathon this past Saturday at eBay NYC. It was great to meet people up there and actually get my hands on to code and try to win prizes...of course I lost lol. But I got some challenges that I can work on now to stock up my portfolio.

Quick update: I FINNALLY got a F2F interview with Comcast, I am waiting to hear back from them. Also have been hitting up companies directly and sending cover letter emails. Looking at a couple Software Engineering positions and a few Analyst positions, hopefully I get in one of them!

I haven't checked in here in awhile. I still grinding. Working on my Network+ now. Got my A+ and Security+. Still trying to get that information security or cyber security position

word. yall keep grinding man. it will all pay off in the end.

im waiting to hear back from this interview i had up in charlotte, nc. Sr network engineer but with a mixed shop (juniper, cisco, sonicwall, etc). over 100k. just tellin yall for motivation.

I didn't hear from Comcast yet, but I got a Software Engineer position, Dev OP Engineer, and an Information Analyst on deck from three different companies. I'll see what happens.

I'm getting calls for temp/contract position, but I'm hesitant to pursue them. I got a full time position right now w/ benefits. I'm just nervous about taking a position that I'm might only have for 3 months then I'm unemployed, waiting on a phone call. Hopefully I can get an information security position that's full time and don't have to worry about that. My plan is to work for a company about 5-10 years full time then do contract work.

I'm not applying for any jobs anymore. I'm networking to get my next job, these recruiters are a joke. In my entire career, 0% of the jobs that I've got were straight from recruiters/contracting firms. A good percentage of my jobs I had to contact the hiring manager directly or know someone who was working in the building who could tell me know who the hiring manager was.

All but 2 jobs they said they've found someone else. Ridiculous and I thought the fact of having all my career documents would make a difference, displaying it to a recruiter is worthless. If that hiring manager doesn't know you or met you, they will not take a chance on you. Fucking pissed off.
