I thought I was the only it nigga on the site

what certifications do you have currently?

A+

I just got my first real it job as system administrator I hustled my way into it

Its a black ran organization dealing with mental illness and aids patients I only been here a month mad drama floating around I love it tho

not to dig to hard, but does it pay well?

30k im working at a non profit so im being underpaid but the title looks a great for when I go to get another

The average systems admin in york is like 50k ima make 40k because I have a 2nd job

But being salaried for the first time is cool as fuck I dont loose nothing of my check for being late or missing work little things like that help alot

My checks used to hurt if I got sick on my second job

Every day im learning something new that I know is going to help me get more certs and earn more money

We have multiple sites thatbi teavel to if needed some of them I just rdp into

So some days im out all day and only clock in and out of my main site

damn thats dope getting an system administrator job with just the A+ , makes me think I should start looking a little earlier than I was going to for my 1st IT job

Any of yall good with wireshark? Its not really a part of my cisco curriculum though it seems like it should be , and Im guessing its almost necessary to know how to use it with a networking job.

yeah. learn that shit as much as you can. very helpful in network troubleshooting

How did you learn it?

@John_Blazini

just trial and error. having to use it to capture packets for network issues. i used it mainly with the cisco asa packet capture feature

long story short my friend put me onto to this program called npower , 22 weeks, weeks 15 training, 7 weeks of paid internship

they pay for you to take your a+ i failed the 801 because i didn't study enough i was working at the time then i took it again passed it then took the 802 passed that , but i wasn't trying to get a it job yet

i was going to ride my flexible part time job so i can pursue more certs and internships

They started up a ethical hacker, network and security course i wanted to get into unfortunately i didn't get in due to politics so i heard ( There are 2 sites the Harlem site and the Brooklyn site(main site) i graduated from the Harlem site

My plans didn't fall through like i hoped so i started working with the job developer from npower a couple of months later. quickly i got 2 interviews from 2 non profit organizations

st johns bread and life on oct 15th 15$ part time non salary

and heritage health and housing on the 20th 16.48 salary

Both interviews went well but i only sent out a thank you letter to heritage that's the job i wanted and that's the job i got

Do you guys have bachelors degrees in cs or ei? Or are y'all just getting certs and getting nice jobs? I'm asking because I'm heading back to school and it should take me 2 years to get my bachelors in Computer science, but I wanna get certifications while im in school..

i got a bachelors in CS... and i took like 2 networking classes in school. but im a network engineer now and i pursued my certs after i started working on my MBA. i said fuck an MBA after a few classes because i saw i could make way more $ by getting certified instead.

if i could go back i would have done these certs at 18 and bypassed college altogether. the degree is impt to get you to higher, management, CEO, etc.

i also know folks in IT management positions with degrees in english and history etc.

make your company pay for it. if they want you to learn it they should be willing to put up the dough

if any one needs the network+ study material (sybex book, exam cram, cbt nuggets, practice exams, labs i think), i have it

I work for an IT company which I use Linux to diagnose customer's issues all day.

The test was pretty good, I'm not going to say it was cake as there were questions that were different from the book. But it wasn't bad at all.
