Eminem has always gotten more play on Top 40 station than he has on Urban stations. I think he's only had two Top 10 hits on Urban radio in his career (Real Slim Shady and Lose Yourself)

But here in Milwaukee, all of Eminem's singles got decent airplay up until "Toy Soldiers"....that was the last song I remember hearing on WKKV

It's been said by some scholars that eminem represents everything most black people aspire to be:

1. Successful

2. Rich

3. Relevant

4. Revered amongst whites

5. Praised by other blacks

@ Capo

It's simple

Eminem has:

Black, White, Brown, Red. Jellow fans

Nas has:

Black, White, Brown, Red, Jellow fans

Jin has:

Black, White, Brown, Red, Jellow fans

Even Fat Joe has:

Black, White, Brown, Red, Jellow fans

bump this muhfuckin thread.

His success has been inflated. His race makes him easier to market. No one else in hip hop today can say and do the shyt that he does, as shockingly as he is allowed to do. They would be either edited or shelved completely. The creative freedom he gets in today's industry is unparalleled and reminiscent of how Hip Hop was in when PE, Pac, etc. was doing it. Nas couldn't even name his album what he wanted to, even though their is book of the same name currently for sale. To make it worse there are various bars that were taken off the album.

We can argue his record sales are inflated because of his race, but we can also argue that the marketing force behind him is pushing him more than any other artist because he's white. Why is he more favored in hip hop from an industry perspective than any other artist today? Why can't other artists exercise freedom of speech in conjunction with creative music like Em can without getting edited or shelved? This is that bullshyt man.

Yes this thread pretty much proved beyond a resonable doubt his sales are inflated. Even Eminem himself agrees with this. But I will say that even though White America is using Eminem to whitewash Hip Hop record books. You can't deny his talent. When they first tried to do it with Vanilla Ice, Black America caught on quick and ended him. Had they had it there way Vanilla Ice would of been breaking the records Eminem is breaking now. It's clear though that Eminem is a talented emcee. Biggie is the GOAT to me and Eminem did honor his legacy by dropping a dope ass verse on "Dead Wrong". Vanilla Ice could never drop the quality verses as Eminem. So even though yes his sales are inflated to death and everyone hops on everything he does. People are lying to themselves if they think Em is wack, weak or average. He's a very talented Emcee, I just wish White America didn't overrate him to GOAT status when it's clear he's not even Top 5.

Em is seriously overrated if you say he is the greatest, as far as sales, that means little to nothing that's why I get pissed when rappers go pushing albums back to try and create buzz. Let the music do what it do

I feel the same way too, for example not to single him out but Big Boi's recent album release was supposed to drop in 2007 not 2010. I don't know if it was him or the label, but it could've changed some things in the scene that we're seeing right row.

That's what hurts Eminem in every GOAT Hip Hop debate. His catalog just doesn't measure up to the GREATS. With basically 1 Classic album in "MMLP" (Which people debate it's Classic Status) it just hard to surpass other rappers who have dropped 2 Classics and many game changing albums. "Recovery" was a step in the right direction subject matter wise but the production was hit or miss. "Relaspe" was over-rated just like "Encore" was and both of those albums were weak 3 Mic or under albums. "SSLP" and "TES" are solid albums both above 4 mics for sure. "8 Mile" Soundtrack was dope and "The Reup" was forgettable. Most of his mainstream singles were some of the worst in Hip Hop History though his 2nd singles are mostly good. Overall it's a solid catalog but Eminem doesn't have an ablum seeing some of the pillars in Hip Hop History. ILLmatic, Ready To Die, Reasonable Doubt, Paid in Full and Me against the World illistrates why it's impossible to me for Eminem to be Top 5. He doesn't have a single album BETTER, that's the key word, BETTER than those therefor he cannot be put ahead of those emcees. The books will sqeeze him into the Top 10 cause of his sales and impact which this thread proved are inflated but the fact is he's Top 15 at best.
