If skin color was the only determination for record sales, Asher Roth and Lil Whyte would have diamond albums. Vanilla Ice would have had two albums at the 7 million plus mark. Bubba Sparxxx would be 10x platinum by now as well.

Eminem represents the ultimate rags to riches story. Hip Hop started in the streets, and so did Eminem. Hip Hop was a competition and Marshall got his start BATTLING in the Rap Olympics and taken on all comers. Nothing was handed to him, he had to earn his deal. He didn't have a friend in the industry that just put him on. He worked his behind off to make sure someone on the level of a Dr. Dre heard his tape.

Even when he's the highest selling rapper ever, he's still doing cyphers with credible emcees like Black Thought and Mos Def. Even after the success of Recovery, he's still making an EP with an "underground" rapper in Royce da 5'9.

Every rapper wants to be mainstream. Every rapper wants to make money off his craft. It's why Nas made Ooochie Wally and it's why Jay does songs with people outside the genre. Eminem just does it better than most.

Eminem is a "pop" act because he's popular. But ask any of his peers and they'll tell you he;s one of the most respected lyricists of all-time.

Nah, Eminem is only helping Eminem (as well as anybody involved with his songs)...There are plenty of Eminem fans that only like Eminem, or barely like anyone else.

If this was the case then rappers would be selling like it's 1998-1999, being that Eminem goes multi-platinum every time he drops

In 1999 Emenims "SLim Shady LP" sold 5 million copies
In 2011 Emenims "Recovery" has sold 4 million copies

Not much sales difference from his debut to his current release.

But let me tell you something, Emenim sells millioons of records in Europeon countries with large Caucasion populations.

His last release "Recovery" is platinum in France, Switzerland, Germany and even Australia and New Zealand.

Emenim makes good music for his people and he should be saluted for that but he will never be embraced in our community to the extent that he is embraced in your community.

Because JayZ'z popularity has increased over the years due to his work and friendship with Lincoln Park, Emenim, Chris Martin, Gweneth Paltrow and other popular figures in entertainment.

His popularity in Europeon countries with majority white populations has surprisingly stayed about the same his entire career.

Majority of Eminem's fans who are white females mostly young teenagers that buy his Albums, Singles, go to his concerts, have his posters up in their room, buy his clothing etc are actually middle to upper class and from the Suburbs so they them self can not relate to a lotta things Eminem Rap's about such as growing up poor in the hood, being a struggling father trying to provide for his family, growing up in a single parent home, having a parent on welfare, being homeless and living in public housing etc

Black people dont prefer him at all, at least not the ones in my universe.

The people that relate best to Emenim are the people who look like him and share the same culture that he does, his voice, cadence, vocal inflection, tone, and frequency is more suitable and easier to relate to for people from a similiar culture and background.

His behavior, topics, and subject-matter are easier for people from his own culture to relate to.

Some people prefer pills over weed
Some people feel comfortable dressing up like a woman while rapping others would consider it career suicide
Some rappers can attack pop-Stars as a gimmick while others refuse to do so for ear of loooking like a coward
Some people feel comfortable attacking their mothers and some people consider attacking your mother to be taboo
Some rappers can joke about homo-pedo-incest-beastiality-matricide-suicide topics and others consider that Horrorcore

There are vast cultural differences that people choose to ignore, but they exist nonetheless and often dictate what music people gravitate towards and the artists that they enjoy listening to.
