real talk...

Drake should take this as a blessing in disguise.

First off, to be mentioned directly by anyone with 10+ years of relevance in the game (regardless the era), says that they respect you enough to be mentioned.

Why are diamonds so expensive.

The ignorant will say because of the bling.

The knowledgeable will say because of the pressure.

A diamond endures decades and decades of pressure to become the hardest of minerals on earth.

The only thing that can cut a diamond is another diamond. Shit, they make saws out that shit.

IMO, Common is basically saying, you make good music, but the essence of hip-hop is to be a diamond, not just a shiny rock.

OK, you've proved that you a shiny rock (i.e. success on radio, mixtapes and albums)...

Now I'm inviting you to the pressure ring to see if you have what it takes in this realm we call hip-hop to be relevant 10+ years...

...or are you gonna tuck your tail between your legs, say I'm hating, claim you're an 'artist' that isn't confined by the walls of hip-hop and transition to movies in 2-3 years.

...yo move Drizzy

Interesting point. I understand Drake's idea of never responding to disses cause they most likely are motivated for attention, but guys like Common and Pusha T are taking advantage of this. I see Drake moving into movies, I remember him saying after his second album he was going on a break to focus on movies. I don't think he's going to do that now, but that can be his fall back career. Maybe, Drake isn't confident in his ability to battle, maybe these subliminals(Jays Blueprint) he throws are the closest thing to battling.

as a fan of both common and drake, i can say that both have their own strengths that make them great artists and a few similarities. im a fan of music so i can rock with both. and if u ever heard drake rap without singing then you kno y i would say he's a good artist. 9am in dallas, king leon and tracks similar are pretty solid imo. and i dont think common finally directed sweet at drake, when the track first came out he said if the cap fit, wear it. PEOPLE automatically thought of drake, if that be the case then the general consensus is clear

Right, Common was never a simping lame like Drake.

There's a difference between making melow music and just being an emo, soft, simp.

For example, just because you sing R&B doesn't mean you have to make cornball lame azz music. Jagged Edge, Raheem Devaughn, Tank, etc make/made good R&B music, but they don't come across as suckers
