Fixed for accuracy. And Nas did make good commercial records...he's not Jay-Z. They're two different artists on two different paths of musical vision/lyrics and tastes.

lol i think you proved his point bruh

People used to debate over who was better between Kane and Rakim, though, all the time.

If Jay Z wants to be considered the GOAT then it is fair to question why he can't make a song like 'Nasty' in 2011.

It's one thing to debate who you like. It's something different to say why doesn't rapper X make a song like rapper Y. They aren't the same person so it doesn't make sense to me. If you want to debate about who is better, do your thing, but to ask why this dude isn't making music like this cat doesn't make sense to me. The only common trait between Jay & Nas are they're both rappers from the projects.

To be honest with you, I don't want to hear a song like Nasty from Jay. If he does it, I'm sure I'd listen to it, but I don't listen to his music expecting to hear a certain sound nowadays. Even with Nas, I don't expect to hear the same boom bap shit from the 90s. If I want to hear that, I'll listen to the old tracks I have.

I'm all for evolution of hiphop but most of the shit today I don't recognize as hiphop.

I don't know what you would call it but it is like a new genre of music.

I was diggin' in the crates and I found this old Big Daddy Kane record.

I miss funky samples, deejays that would scratch, dope drums, and lyrics:

Maybe he isn't looking to drop a single that fads as fast as it comes. A song that gets that gets played on black radio stations, tears down black clubs and is overall huge in the black community is more than likely his goal. You know, the complete opposite of Nasty. I could imagine him in the Niggas in Paris video walking around with his pants hanging off his ass and hearing "look at this 40 year old with his pants falling dropping. He isn't past that yet"? I guess the blinders come on when certain other 40 year old rappers do it.

Ain't no money in it.

Corporate-Hov is all about his money and he recognizes that the Europeon market is were the money is at so that's who he caters his music to.

Nas is all about the culture and he tends to make music from a cultural perspective instead of catering his music for whites consumption.

im cs, a h-rap post.. wow

Nas obviously cares and makes music that HE wants to make

he probably the only rapper than dont have to worry about the label telling him to make "accesible" hip-hop..

he got a solid fanbase that wil ALWAYS support him thats why he can just make straight traditional NAS type hip-hop

Jay was the original Ross. Gets carried by production majority of the time.

Wrong.

JayZ's lyrics are the reason he's been in the game for a couple decades not because of production....just ask somebody who knows music.

You don't sell Unplugged albums, and Collab albums with Linkin Park/R-Kelly because of production.

I heard somebody say Ross gets carried by production but they failed to explain why Ross has been one of the most sought after artists for features since his debut even tho' he's not a platinum selling artist....maybe you can explain this phenomena?

cmon son. you know jay's a better rapper than ross. just because he doesn't have it/try anymore doesn't change the past

I'm not saying ross and jay is on the same lyrical standpoint. I'm just referring to how Jay sometimes have productions that outshine or overshadow his lyricism.

because of his hard work ethic he will step up his pen game and drop gems. I thought what he did MBDTF would make this obvious?

Also I will never for the life of me check out a jay collab with r kelly/linking park.

BP is a perfect example

BP production >>>> BP lyrics

its a classic production wise not for jays contribution

because 70% of the people in the south never even heard of "Nasty"
that's why he's not making that.
