First of all, I never said anything John Mayer - I was responding to someone else's post about the white people using the n-word in genernal. This may not belong in this section but since a few hip hop artist were referenced in the article I wanted to discuss this with some HIP HOP heads (well those of you who make sense and think logicallly).
Just a couple of days ago there was a topic about rappers doing albums with no profanity. I'm going to go ahead and throw the n-word in there with every other cuss word. NOW that hip hop is mainstream and there is a growing number of non AAs (arican americans) listening to hop hop do you think hip hop artist carry a responsibility with using the N word. I think rap music desensitizes the word and it doesn't seem like such a big deal to use it. HOWEVER it is still a very sensitive issue in our community. I remember being in a white bar and Kanye's Golddigger came on and the crowd went nuts... WE ALL know how the chorus goes and the crowd was singing along HELLA loud and not censoring anything. Now does it make sense for this to be a controversy when we use it so freely in music ...
