This is an open board for open discussion if you dont like the topic simply move on OR try being creative yourself and starting an interesting topic that you would want to discuss. I dont think its fair that innercity99 started a thread with a great arguement, no matter if it has been heard before by some, and the thread gets taken up by a bunch of comments that have nothing to do with the topic.

Jay Z is a dope MC and all of the above that you mentioned. But he kinda fell in2 his position by chance/ fate or whatever, which was still out of his control. Im referring to Pac and Biggie being murdered so Jay could grow to the prominent MC he is today. Im not saying he wouldn't have been great if they were alive but he would've been over shadowed by two very more influential MC's who were Pac & Big. Jay would've been under Biggies umbrella cuz he respected him so much as the "nicest MC".

Regardless tho since Pac & Big are dead (which left a HUGE void in hip hop & MCs that are actually saying something) Jay did answer the call & void in Hip Hop & stepped it up so that has to be respected. He became what i think Nas should've been.... a leader in the Hip Hop community and the voice/ face/ representative/ embassador (whatever u wana call him). Nas just didnt have the drive & love for the game which i think he kinda lost with the passing of the above mentioned greats of hip hop.

BUT i must take a few points away from Jay cuz Nas got his Danger from Ray J on and SMAAAAAAASHED the homie, no homo, ha ha aaaaaaa! I wouldve paid money to see Jays face when he sat down at Rocafella Records & listened to that track, that was truely Ether. And Jay's responses, IN MY OPINION, was extremely lame & not thought out. He was in a hurry to say something/ ANYTHING back cuz Nas gave it 2 him so badly he didnt think he was gona wake Nas up in that aspect. Nas is a good MC, i used to really like him, but over the years he's fallen back so much in HIp Hop & his relevancy i have grown not to like him as much, he's like the laziest, most talented rapper around.

thank u finally someone came with a response other then "im tired of seein this thread" remark and i feel wut u sayin about the battle yes nas won this is tru but people who say he just murdered jay i believe is reachen cause on a scale from one 2 ten takeover was a 9 "in my opinion the only fault i see in that is that it was only one real verse" and ether was a 10 cause yes Nas went in even though Nas did't really spit anything factual about Jay but thats nor here or there and blueprint 2 diss is highly underrated and as sick as ether was it barely put a dent in jay's armor as in he still made a classic afterwards in the black album he still was sellin millions he still was selling out concerts so who else could got hit wit ether and survived ?

If Jay is the GOAT, then it isn't because of his music. It's because he has top notch publicity from things outside of hip hop, which easily makes him the most recognizable hip-hop artist. He's the big brand.

Nas doesn't focus on crossover, which is probably why he hasn't had that much crossover success. With Nas, it seems to always be on some authentic shit. He uses his lyricism to cover content that someone like Jay can't (i.e, Untitled). And he'll probably have an easier time aging because, unlike Jay, he isn't trapped inside a box musically.

Jay is a great lyricist, he didnt bight 70% & not even close to 50% of his lines from Biggie, probably a full 3% which I wouldnt call bighting cuz EVERY1 who listens & has hip-hop awareness knows the lines he used from Biggie. It was more paying homeage to his "favorite mc" than bighting lines.

AND JUST TO SET THE RECORD...I fuck with Jay but dont consider myself a super fan of his. the last Jay album i bumped consistently was probably The Black Album, the only Jay Cd's i actually bought were Reasonable Doubt and Hard Knock Life. But I will always give props to where there due, so it would be hard to say Jay is part of a pack of "descent emcees" @ best.

@ CArlos Bruise-Her....I totally tip my hat to your list of MC's, thats a hard list to argue & i grew up listening to all of those cats in an error where hip-hop was not super saturaed with all the bullshit gimics & there were actually real subject matter in songs that people of everyday life could relate too, opposed to the count how much money im worth music that plagues hip hop today. But at the sametime Jay came out of that era of hip hop also & has did a crazy job @ staying relevant in a "young mans sport" per say.

P.S....Biggie was definitely more than a mediocre rapper...his flow was pretty teflon for rappers in those days altho he only got 2 put out 2 cd's they were & both still remain hip hop classics. Ready 2 die was one of the few hip hop albums that changed the game of hip hop & forever left its imprint. I remember the first time i heard it, i wasnt even into the singles he put out & i think pac is the greatest Mc to ever do it. But i couldnt deny Biggies ready to die when i actually sat down & listened to it. i was just like WoW, niggaz dont rhyme like this!
