my fellow beatmakers/producers, i need yall to lend me ur ears.

this is a result of studying the mixing and mastering tutorials i posted on the last page in this thread, i went back and did more extensive eq'ing on a beat(before hand i just used the basic 3 band eq on the mixer on a few sounds i thought needed it) and also tried my hand at mastering, i think i got a good sounding mix and master but i need opinions from others, i wanna know what yall think of the beat but moreso, what yall think of the mix, sho preciate it if u can.

one version is my normal mix, another is one i tried better eq'ing and another is one i tried to master, lemme know which has the best quality, clarity, and bump etc

I'm more interested in how/why you mastered an instrumental and differentiated it from the one you said eq'd a little more. Everybody likes the mastered version better which is interesting. But I can't tell the difference. Like all my listens, I'm on my phone tho.

i "mastered" it to try to achieve a fuller sound, tryna reach that so called "professional level" sound in my mind i suppose, my last mixtape i dropped on here had a real clear sound i thought but still wasnt quite pro level and the beats ive made since sounded good on my woofers and monitors, but on computer speakers it was like i couldnt feel the full force of the drums like i could with other songs, so i finally looked at the mixing and mastering tutorials i saw on youtube and tried my luck at creating my own way from there, me personally i think the eq version sounds clean and the mastered sounds clean and full

Sounds good. Let's talk your pre-mastering session. I know I read somewhere a lot of engineers prefer -3db to -6db of headroom.

What do you (or anyone else in this thread for that matter) prefer? And why?

honestly i never really paid attention to it until recently, i used to have my lil preset i put on it in the middle of making the beat to make it louder and glossier and just made sure it never went over 0 db, but now im seein that its good to work within that -3 to -6 u mentioned b4 adding the mastering effects

what kinda laptops yall use to make ur beats on, i been on this dell inspirion 1545 for a while, its really done me well, but after tryna learn how to master, im thinkin i need something with more memory cuz the clickin on fl studio has just become unbearable.

someone recommend me a decent midi keyboard i can pair with my mpc

i only make beats to pass time so nothing too serious.

By pair do you mean midi to or from your MPC? Really an mpk would suffice for both.

what audio interface do you have. cuz i also have a dell inspiron but i use ASIO and Focusrite Scarlett2i2

i use the samson monitors as an audio interface now, b4 that just the soundcard thats on the laptop, both get bout the same buffering issues once i add in eq'ing/mastering settings
