Man whats been up with you?

I was feeling out of my groove aint really think I was gonna do any work for a min the I came across this old Questlove J Dilla mixhttp://pitchfork.com/news/45399-listen-uestloves-j-dilla-mix/

Heard De La Soul Stakes is High and had to crack open the FL lol. That's how I did this last beat. Here's Questlove talking about Dilla's unorthodox approach as well http://www.xxlmag.com/news/2012/02/questlove-on-why-dilla-was-the-best-rap-producer-of-all-time/

Any of yall trying to go for real with this shit cause I am. Starting to get real good with this FL Studio from these tutorials and learning how to get the sound I'm actually lookin for. Thats always been my problem, coming up with concepts aint nothing.

I'm hit or miss in that regard thats why i really trying to learn music theory now. I think this is a good example of my sound here

This one's cool but it's not really my speed. I'm listening from my phone so I can't really critique it for its mix but the stab seems like it's a little out of the pocket. Not that it can't fit with the mix but it may have not been mixed very well with the rest of the sounds.

One thing I noticed on both of y'all's post was the use of reverb on a few sounds. And I read somewhere that reverb throughout the song on certain sounds can harm or crowd of space in a final mix with the presence of vocals. While I'm not completely sure of it I can see where it makes sense for the most part just not all of the time.

Yeah reverb and bass occupies a lot of space in the mix so you have to factor that in when you're making your track. Reverb is equivalent to 100s of delays of the same sound so its real spacious and the lower the frequency the more space bass occupies. Now if you're going for a real spacious atmospheric track as I was this is the norm and honestly the majority of my beats are like scores for movies. I visualize shit with all of them and often times will make the beat to stand on its own with no intention of leaving room for anyone to spit over it. Powerful imagery is very inspiring for my music.
