I don't know if this has been brought up, but what's a good site to sell beats on? my boy wuz tellin me nipsey (hussle) uses one but I forget the name...

The best way is to start your own website that has paypal linked to it.

Then start promoting your beats and website on every forum/social media you can find.

Its more professional than having a soundclick or soundcloud. Not saying those sites are bad but still, its better to have your own site. I might fuck with it and get my own .com site once I build my inventory.

Compression. Buy a compressor. They cost around $100. It basically makes everything sound THICK like the way stuff sounds on the radio. You ever listen to a radio DJs voice like Howard Stern and you wonder why his voice sounds so thick? Its because they use compression. Its a simple machine with about 2 or 3 buttons on it. You crank the ratio up to 20:1 and raise the threshold until the red light is flashing. Your demo will sound professional.

the good ol mix ad master paradox.

I been tryna mold my own sound for years now, still havent found the best sweet spot. I use to stack a lot of shit, sounded horrible. Now I've become more minimal in the hardware or plug ins i use to mix. Im tempted to use some album, like 2001 or a Kingdom Come as a reference, but I dont want to because when I go back to when cats were droppin shit, they all didnt have the same mix, it was their sound tho, so why would I attempt to make my shit sound like some one elses?

People created the social construct whats the professional sound is...when there is really no such thing. Now there is a such thing as shitty sound, polished sound, dirty sound, etc. But professional sound is subjective. This is why niggas are makin beats in Dr Dre headphones because they think it'll give a certain sound that he has, its all your ear tho.

That said, the most extravagant I get with mixing now is maybe one compressor at the forefront of the main mix, a limiter, at least something with 8 freqs for eq'ing and maybe an exciter. Individual tracks vary, for example if a snare Im using is monophonic, I can either double then pan it, or use a plug in to make it sound stereo. Ive found that using higher quality sounds eliminates the need for a lot of extra mixing shit

me personally with my sound i just been guessing til it sounds good all these years when it comes to the final mix, i know its not the best yet, but i think its aight until im ready to drop major money on mastering, im on fl studio, ima take a screenshot of some shit i put on the beat to make it sound a lil thicker

i used to use a preset that on fl that put a parametric, multiband and stereo enhancer on the beats, then i added a maximus to juice it up more, put another compressor on there, and used the limiter, i think it gives my beats a solid sound for someone who isnt a pro engineer

Damn 20:1 ratio is a hell of a lot of compression

Anybody advanced enough yet to start using sidechaining or phase cancellation to remove vocals or anything like that? I kinda understand can do these things, but not really lol. And I know phase cancellation does a lot of negative things to the underlying instrumental, but it seems like it could be very useful.

Exactly on the fact of a professional sound being subjective cause it all depends on the atmosphere and vibe you're trying to create. Like for example I could use a dude like Spaceghostpurp who's known for his intentionally low fi muddy beats. Like a lil over a yer ago he came out with a release where he actually went back and mastered alot of those "shitty" tracks and most of the tracks sounded worse than the low fi versions, the vibe had been thrown off. When I noticed that I realized that any approach right or "wrong" can be effective when utilized in the right manner. Not trying to say you don't need to worry about a polished sound, just that imperfection can add character to a track when used right.
