Call em Washed up. Call em Old. Call Them finished. I call them Legends. Check out my Over The Hill Action Marathon:
(GRADE C) The Trilogy is now complete. Stallone brings all the guys back and adds some new team members in the 3rd installment of the Blockbuster Action Franchise "The Expendables". When Barney Ross finds himself feeling guilty about X Expendables lost in the past. He decides he wants a new team. But going with a bunch a rookies gets him in more trouble than he bargained for. Well it was a decent sequel but honestly I think the movie could of been better. Wesley and Antonio Bandaras stole the movie.
Harrison Ford was interesting in this role. The Young cast was pointless. I don't know I feel like at this point people are just collecting checks. I commend Stallone for this series but out of all 3 films I'm still waiting for that true 80's action movie. It seems now people are just showing up on screen and the plots for these movies have gotten worst with each film. Overall it had some good one-liners and throwback scenes so I still enjoyed it but I really wanted more from this series and I felt it has gotten worst with each film. Sadly I have to say this is a wait for video.
(GRADE B +) The Man, The Myth, The Legend Denzel Washington teams back up with Antione Fuqua for the 1st time since their Oscar Winning film "Training Day" in the film adaptation of the 1980's TV Show "The Equalizer". Denzel plays an Ex-CIA operative who is now retired working at a Home Depot like Warehouse. After work he always goes and gets some food and coffee at a local diner. He would talk to and run into a Hooker there.
Well one day after seeing her get roughed up by some Russain Mobsters he decides to get involved and the movie takes off from there. I thought this was a great role for Denzel. He was hardbody. The movie does take a while to get going but once it's going it's gone. Chloe did a good job and it reminded me of Jodie Foster in "Taxi Driver". This wasn't really like the TV outside of some of Denzel's actions with his watch. The action was on point and the Main Bad Guy was dope. There's rumors there will be a sequel and I hope so cause I like Denzel in this character.
(GRADE = B ) Keanu Reeves is back in action with his assassian thriller "John Wick". After taking almost a decade off after "The Matrix Trilogy", Keanu has really only been a few action movies since then. "Constintine" was one. Then the low budget "Man of Tai Chi" and last year's box office bomb "47 Ronin". But this film should of been called "Neo Wick" as Keanu is back in form. The figting style he uses "Gun-Fu" was very grounded and realistic. The story is about a retired Assassin who gets married but his wife died of a disease. She gave him a Dog before her death. Well some punk kids decide to mess with him while he's getting gas. They follow him home and rob him and kill his dog. Of course they forget to kill him. This sets the movie off as John Wick goes on a rampage. I didn't like the bad guy in this movie but Keanu and the action made up for it. Really enjoyed this movie. It was very B-Movieish but it worked.
So most of the stars of these 3 Action Films may be over 50 years old but they all proved they can still kick some major a$$.
